The French automaker Renault is gearing up for the launch of the Boreal seven-seater SUV, which will be based on the brand's upcoming new-generation Duster. So far, we had only seen the pictures of the Dacia Bigster SUV concept. However, now we get to see the first real spy images of the Renault Boreal being tested on public roads. It has to be noted that this particular test mule was spotted in Brazil and not India. Although, in the coming months, most likely it will be seen in India as well.

Renault Boreal test mule: Details

The images of the Renault Boreal test mule show a heavily camouflaged vehicle being tested on the roads of Brazil. Presently, it has been reported that Renault will be first launching the Boreal in Brazil by the end of 2025 and will then launch it in India next year. According to the company, the Boreal will be sold in over 70 international markets.

Front

From the spy shots shared online, we can note that at the front, the Renault Boreal will come equipped with Y-shaped LED DRLs. However, this particular test mule is so heavily camouflaged that almost the entire part of the headlights was covered. We can also note that the grille was hidden, but the new Renault logo’s silhouette can be seen through the camouflage. The lower portion of the bumper has a huge air dam as well.

Moving on to the side profile, the Renault Boreal will boast the same large SUV proportions. It appears to be driving on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. One key interesting detail about the Renault Boreal test mule includes a faux rear door handle, which has been placed to hide the location of the actual door handle. The production version will most likely have the door handle hidden in the C-pillar.

Other notable highlights of the Renault Boreal test mule include high ground clearance and a long wheelbase. Apart from these, there will be a generous amount of cladding on the side and lower portion of the vehicle to give it a more rugged appearance and help it while off-roading. This test mule also had a new spoiler design. Apart from these, the test mule did not reveal many details about the rear.

Interior design

Although not clear through the images, the cabin of the new Boreal will be very similar to that of the Duster. It will be futuristic, modern, and simple. It will come equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats with premium upholstery, and ADAS Level 2. Expect to see a sunroof as well.

Powertrain options

The new Renault Boreal SUV is expected to get a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which will be capable of producing 128 bhp. There will most likely be an option of a 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain, which will be able to produce 153 bhp. Unfortunately, no diesel engine will be on offer, as Renault has phased out the diesel engine completely globally.

Pricing of the Renault Boreal is expected to start in the range of Rs 15 lakh. Once launched in India, the Boreal will be taking on rivals such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and the MG Hector Plus.
