The Hindustan Ambassador is a car that needs no introduction. This iconic car was the first made-in-India car and is a part of our automotive history. The car was in production until 2014 and was used by politicians, wealthy families, and even higher-level government employees as their official vehicle. The car lost its popularity as the manufacturer failed to come up with decent updates and new models. Even today, there are several car collectors who have well-maintained a classic Ambassador. Some maintain the car in its stock condition, while others customize it to make it more suitable for daily use. Here we have one such video.
The video has been shared by KAM Customs, a Mangalore-based workshop that restores and modifies vehicles. The exact age of the Ambassador seen here in the video is not known; however, it had come in for restoration work. The owner probably wanted to give the car a premium look without losing its character, and that’s precisely what the workshop did.
After fixing all the dents and addressing all rust-related issues, the car was completely repainted in a custom shade called “Wildberry,” a color seen in Rolls Royce cars. The owner might have chosen this shade because it looked premium and elegant on the car.
The paint job was done in a paint booth to achieve a clean and even finish. The car was then customized to give it a modern look. The headlamps on this Ambassador were replaced with aftermarket LED units.
The suspension on this Ambassador also received an upgrade. The stock leaf spring units were replaced with Arc leaf spring units. Both the bonnet and the boot received hydraulic struts, making it easy and convenient to lift and close the metal parts.
Proper insulation was done under the bonnet. In addition to the LED headlamps, the workshop also installed aftermarket LED auxiliary lamps. The front grille on this sedan also appears to be an aftermarket unit with chrome garnishes.
Moving to the side profile, you’ll notice the new aftermarket alloy wheels. The stock ORVMs were replaced with electronically adjustable and foldable units. The tail lamps on this sedan are also custom-made LED units with the HM logo in the center.
Along with the exterior, the interior of this sedan was also customized. The car features custom leather interiors, a custom dashboard with a dual-tone shade, an aftermarket gear lever knob, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, custom-made door panels, leatherette seat covers, new knobs to control the AC, an aftermarket touchscreen infotainment system, new AC vents, an upgraded speaker system, and more.
The workshop has also integrated a roof liner with Rolls Royce-like starlit roof lights. The color of the lights can be changed using a remote control. They have also included a custom-made armrest, and the car also gets a custom-made steering wheel. The finished product looks very premium, all without losing its character.
