tata altroz racer base trim review

Tata Motors sells the Altroz Racer (the more powerful version of the Altroz hatchback) in three different variants, the R1, R2 and the R3 with R1 being the base and R3 being the top trim. Today, we will talk about the base R1 trim of this performance focused hatch via a YouTube video uploaded by Fuel Injected.

The video starts with the exhaust sound of the car which has a sporty note to it. However, not everyone may like this exhaust note. After this, the host talks about the pricing of the Altroz Racer which is as following:

R1 (Base varaint) – Rs. 9.49 lakhs
R2 (Mid Variant) – Rs. 10.49 lakhs
R3 (Top end trim) – Rs. 10.99 lakhs

Please note that all the prices mentioned are ex-showroom.

The host mentions that the Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2-litre engine which is the same engine offered in the Nexon. This turbocharged petrol engine puts out 118 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. However, this engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual only. Tata Motors has not offered automatic transmission in any of the variants of the Altroz Racer.

The overall design of the Altroz Racer remains the same as the regular Altroz. The only differences are the engine and some cosmetic changes. All the variants of the Altroz Racer are offered in dual tone with dual racing stripes finished in white. Additionally, all the chrome elements have been replaced with gloss black.

The R1 trim offers halogen lighting setup along with DRLs and projector based headlights at the front. Fog lights are also available in this trim. At the side, the car drives on 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Even though this is a performance focused version, the car does not offer all four disc brakes. The indicators are mounted on the fenders which is another downside of this trim.

In contrast to the regular Altroz, a spoiler is offered in the Altroz Racer. All the basic features such as rear wiper with washer, high mount stop lamp, defogger and reverse parking camera with sensors are offered. However, the car misses out on LED taillights.

The host first sits in the second row of the car. First, he highlights the 90 degree opening doors which were a major advertising point of the Altroz. Following the sporty theme, the entire cabin is finished in black along with some race inspired elements.

Tata Motors as offered leatherette upholstery as standard in the Altroz Racer. Amenities in the rear seat include two adjustable headrests, armrest, 12V socket and AC vents. The seats and the cabin has multiple orange touches which compliment the overall theme.

Tata Motors has offered premium features such as keyless entry with push button start and ORVMs with electric adjustment and folding functionality as standard in the Racer. Umbrella holder is also offered in the doors which is a nice touch.

The instrument cluster is a basic digital display. The infotainment system is a 10.25-inch system with wireless connectivity features. Other features of the Altroz Racer includes steering mounted multimedia controls, cruise control, leather wrapped steering wheel, auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, orange ambient lighting and much more.
