Tata Motors has commenced deliveries of the petrol and diesel versions of Curvv coupe SUV in India. Days past the same, the first ownership review video of the Diesel Curvv has surfaced. Shared on the YouTube channel, sansCari Sumit, the video shows a brand new Curvv diesel, and its owner’s experience with it. To be noted here is the fact that the car is hardly a week old, and the video is what could be called an early bird.
It shows Gaurav and his brand new Curvv diesel from Haldwani, Uttarakhand. He owned a Tata Nexon for 11 months before selling it off due to poor fuel efficiency. He says that his petrol Nexon used to deliver 8-9 kpl in city hauls, and 16-17 kpl on highways. This was not financially viable for him, and Gaurav eventually sold it off.
It was after this that he bought the Curvv diesel. He says that demo cars were not available at the time of his purchase, and he had to do blind-shopping! He further says that they aren’t available even at the time of filming the video.
Gaurav says he was lured by the design of the Curvv. The vehicle gets a striking design with a coupe-like roofline and a high-set single-piece tailgate with electric operation. Key highlights are a fascia that resembles the one on the new Safari, a unique grille with rectangular elements, large air dams, vertically set headlamps, 18-inch wheels, double-bubble roof spoiler, shark fin antenna, Piano Black body cladding, connected tail lamps, and flush-type door handles.
Eight different variants (Smart, Pure+, Pure+ S, Creative, Creative S, Creative+ S, Accomplished S, and Accomplished+ S) and six colours are available. The vehicle shown in the video wears the dual-tone Pure Grey paint. Not sure which variant it is though.
The interior, inspired by the Nexon, is finished in Burgundy and offers several interesting features. The top-spec gets a 6-way power adjustable driver seat, 40:60 split rear seats, a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo and mounted controls, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-speaker JBL premium audio system, 10.25 digital instrumentation, voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, electrochromic IRVM, electronically controlled tailgate, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, electric parking brake, and level 2 ADAS.
The Curvv diesel is based on the new ATLAS platform. This architecture will also be found in the upcoming ICE version of Sierra and on the next-generation Harrier and Safari. The diesel engine is borrowed from the Nexon, and produces 118 PS and 260 Nm.
The video also talks about the refinement of this engine. It includes a few seconds of pure engine sound, demonstrating how loud it is. The owner and the host are both impressed by the beefy mid-range of this mill. The tug of torque on the diesel Curvv is strong, more about which we have talked about in our video review:
Coming back, the ownership review video further speaks about a handful of unfortunate experiences that Gaurav had to face from his new Curvv. The coupe currently has mist formation inside its ORVM-mounted signal lamps, which can be seen in the video. Both sides seem to have this. These, if left unattended, can cause trouble. Gaurav says these will get replaced under warranty, which we are not fully convinced about.
Another unfortunate experience was from his PPF coating. He applied PPF on the third day of purchase. The video says this was done ‘locally’. We don’t know if he meant a local dealership / Tata service center or a professional detailing shop of the place.
The quality of work seems to be sub-par. PPF can be seen improperly applied on places like the flush-door handles and near the panel gaps. The logo also seems to have been improperly re-fixed post detailing. The owner claims to have paid a bizarre amount of 90,000 for the detailing alone! The two can further be seen sharing more of their thoughts on the Curvv. We leave those for you to watch…
