Tata Motors is currently the second-largest automaker in India, beating the South Korean automotive giant Hyundai Motor India. Unfortunately, even after having a very strong December in terms of sales, the overall growth of Tata Motors in the year 2024 has not been significant. It has only managed to grow by 2 percent in 2024. On the other hand, Mahindra Automotive, which is closing the gap with Tata Motors, has grown by 22 percent last year.
Tata Motors vs Mahindra: 2024 Sales Analysis
Tata Sales
As per the reports, Tata Motors in 2024 managed to dispatch a total of 5,62,468 units. This sales figure is better than the total sales of 2023, where it managed to dispatch 5,50,838 units. However, in terms of percentage growth on a year-on-year basis, the company only managed to grow by 2.11 percent.
It also has to be noted that, even though the sales in December 2024 were strong, Tata Motors only had a marginal year-on-year growth in terms of December sales. Last month, the company sold a total of 44,289 units. However, back in December of 2023, it also sold 43,675 units, marking a growth of just 1 percent.
Mahindra Sales
On the other hand, Mahindra Automotive, which has been riding high on the success of many of its latest SUVs launched, has performed a lot better in the last year. In 2024, the total sales of Mahindra stood at 5,28,460 units, whereas the total sales in 2023 were 4,33,172 units. This means that the company has managed to grow its sales by 22 percent, which is very impressive.
As for the sales figures of December 2024, Mahindra managed to dispatch a total of 41,424 units. Meanwhile, in the same month in 2023, its sales were 35,171 units. This marks a growth of 18 percent, which again is very impressive considering that Mahindra only sells SUVs in India.
Can Mahindra Dethrone Tata Motors from the Second Spot?
At the current pace, it looks like Mahindra Automotive could take the second spot in the best-selling automakers list in India. Mahindra, over the last few years, has launched numerous hit SUVs like the Thar three-door, XUV700, Scorpio-N, and the Thar Roxx. It has been able to achieve impressive sales for most of its models, and it has plans to launch several more SUVs in the coming months.
The most important launches from Mahindra in the pipeline are the born electric SUVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9E. Both of these SUVs have been showcased by the brand, and their base prices have been announced. It seems like, even before these vehicles have hit the roads, they have already become super hits.
Mahindra has managed to offer an extremely capable package with these EV SUVs, as they both claim to offer a 500 km range on a single full charge. Also, they both feature extremely futuristic exterior and interior designs. The company has also loaded them with features to the brim, and most likely, these SUVs will lure many ICE vehicle buyers in the country.
Both the BE 6 and XEV 9E will be offered with two battery pack options of 59 kWh and 79 kWh. Additionally, they will come equipped with electric motors making 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque in their top-spec variants. What will make them even more special is that all of this power will be sent to the rear wheels, making them extremely fun to drive.
