Tata Motors currently has a wide range of products on sale, spread across ICE and EV domains. On the affordable side of things are the Tiago hatchback and Tigor sedan. Tata Tiago is priced in the range of 5- 8.7 lakh. The ex-showroom prices of the Tigor sedan fall in the 6- 9.4 lakh bracket. A recent investor presentation has confirmed that Tata Motors is readying major facelifts to the Tigor and Tiago. These new models are known to launch in 2025.
Tata Tiago, Tigor Facelifts: What To Expect?
The new mid-lifecycle facelifts will likely bring notable changes to the model duo. These would mostly be cosmetic and the probabilities for major mechanical overhauls seem distant. The Tiago and Tigor were last updated in January 2020 and have both aged well ever since.
The facelift is expected to come with revised front and rear ends. There will be new bumpers, headlamps and tail lamps. On the inside, the upholstery will get a major upgrade. With a proper facelift in place, the Tigor will be able to compete with the recently launched third-generation Honda Amaze and fourth-generation Maruti Dzire. The compact sedan segment is currently regaining its traction and the facelift could ride this wave comfortably.
Similarly in the hatchback space, the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, and fourth-generation Swift are heating up the fight. The Tiago, if given a proper facelift, could stay competent and garner sales. Both the Tiago and Tigor facelifts are expected to look and feel more contemporary and come better equipped.
The duo could get rear AC vents, front armrest, an updated (bigger?) infotainment system, improved Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivities, wireless charging pad, a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster and even a single-pane sunroof. The variant names could also change on the facelift.
Next Generation Tiago and Tigor Coming?
Tata Motors launched the Tigor and Tiago in 2016. They were based on an aged platform that has its roots in Indica. Some say that the next generations of these are in plans. These will likely move to a new, more modern architecture. Tata Motors is yet to reveal details about this. If these claims turn out to be true, the generational updates would only be out by late 2026 or 2027. In this case, the upcoming facelifts will play a key role in keeping the sales of Tiago and Tigor steady till the next generation cars arrive.
The next generation Tiago and Tigor will mostly retain their current powertrains. The outgoing models are powered by an 1199 cc, 3 cylinders inline, 4 valves/cylinder, DOHC (Revotron) petrol engine that makes 86 PS and 113 Nm on the Tiago and 85 PS and 113 Nm on the Tigor. While Tigor comes with just a manual transmission, an additional 5-speed AMT is available on the Tiago.
Both the hatchback and the sedan also have CNG versions to them. The CNG versions feature a smart twin-cylinder setup, in which CNG is stored in two interconnected cylinders instead of a single big cylinder. This helps in generating usable boot space and boosts practicality. These engines could likely make it to the next-gen as well.
Expected Launch Timelines
We expect the facelifted Tata Tiago and Tigor to launch January 2025 or early February. We expect these to be showcased at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo as well. Tata is known to be working towards generating more sales from the Tiago and Tigor segments in the forthcoming time.
