Tata Motors today launched the Nexon iCNG in India. The Nexon portfolio now has countless variants spread across diverse powertrains. Along with the CNG version, Tata has also updated the Nexon EV with new features and a 45 kWh battery pack. Of course, there are a lot of interesting highlights for both these vehicles. But the most striking among feature additions is a new panoramic sunroof. You hear that right! The Nexon now gets a panoramic sunroof on the CNG and EV versions. It is the first time that a vehicle of this class comes with one. The huge roof could soon make it to the petrol and diesel models as well.
This ultra-wide panoramic sunroof also comes with voice assist, which lets you speak to open and close it. Lower variants continue to offer single-pane sunroofs. The range-topping and higher variants of Nexon iCNG get this feature. What you see in the picture above, however, is the Nexon EV Red Dark edition which also comes with one.
Why Are Panoramic Sunroofs So Popular?
The demand for huge sunroofs has been rising steadily in India. People love how they make the car feel more premium and pleasant. By adding this feature to the Nexon, Tata Motors is giving customers a high-end experience at an affordable price. A panoramic sunroof doesn’t just make the car look nicer; it makes the cabin feel bigger and brighter by letting more light in. For a compact SUV, this is a huge benefit and can help people with claustrophobia be at peace, inside the car.
A large sunroof also improves ventilation. Even though only one pane can be opened, having a full-length roof allows for it to be larger, thus facilitating better ventilation indirectly.
Nexon Now Has A Bigger Upper Hand!
Previously in India, you would have to buy at least a C-segment SUV like the Creta, Seltos or above to get panoramic roofs. The Nexon has now democratized these!
All of its present competitors like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Brezza offer single-pane sunroofs, some of which can be considered small for their segment standards. Offering a pano sunroof for a slight premium will attract more buyers to the Nexon and give it a strong upper hand.
Now consider the case of Nexon iCNG. The only real competitor it has is probably the Maruti Brezza S-CNG. It comes with a small single-pane sunroof. The Nexon iCNG already has the advantage of offering a better set of powertrain that comprises a 1.2 turbocharged CNG engine as against the Brezza’s NA engine. (This 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo CNG engine is the first of its kind) It also offers better transmission choices. Currently, just a manual is available, but an AMT is set to join soon- making things better for the Tata SUV. With the panoramic sunroof also in place, there is no way that anyone tech-savvy says ‘No’ to the iCNG Nexon.
With the addition of this feature, Tata Motors has reiterated that it as a brand, listens to customer demands and desires, and delivers ample value.
Soon To Be Introduced On The ICE Models
Going by how much of extra appeal it brings to the table, it is obvious that Tata Motors will consider adding panoramic sunroofs to the regular petrol and diesel models as well. These models could get an update soon featuring minor tweaks, one of which would be this.
