Camouflaged Tata Safari Spied: Turbo Petrol Version Launching Next Year

2025 Tata Safari Petrol spotted testing

People who love refinement always prefer to buy a petrol-powered vehicle. Currently, the Tata Safari and its sibling, the Harrier, are offered with only diesel engines. However, this could soon change. Recently, a test mule of a Tata Safari covered in camouflage was spotted testing on the road. It is speculated that this particular Safari test mule is the petrol engine variant of the popular SUV.

Tata Safari Petrol Test Mule: What’s New?

From the spy images, we can note that the entire SUV is covered in camouflage. However, despite this, we can see that the SUV has not been given any significant exterior design updates. This suggests one thing: this particular car is being tested to check the all-new turbo petrol engine from the brand.

For those who may not remember, at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo, Tata showcased two brand-new engines. These were the 1.2-litre TGDi and 1.5-litre TGDi engines. The former has been launched with the newly introduced Tata Curvv Coupe SUV. However, it is believed that the latter is being tested for the Harrier and Safari.

Tata Curvv’s 1.2-litre TGDi engine makes 123 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. However, the 1.5-litre will make a peak torque of 280 Nm between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm and a power output of 170 bhp at 5,000 rpm. At the moment, these figures have not been confirmed. It is believed that the company could also increase these power figures.

As mentioned above, from the images of the test mule, we can note that there are no significant differences in the exterior. It still gets the same aggressive split headlamp design with connected LED DRLs on top and LED headlights on the bottom. The company will retain the same bumper and grille design.

Moving on to the side profile, the 19-inch alloy wheels also appear to boast the same design as the Dark Edition of the current-generation Safari. The rest of the details also look the same. The rear will also come with the same connected LED taillights and a premium-looking tailgate.

Why is Tata Motors Working on the Safari Petrol?

Many people might be asking why Tata Motors is working on the development of the Safari Petrol. The answer is to offer variety to buyers. Currently, the company only offers the Safari with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

This engine makes around 170 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. It comes with a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission. Now, although this engine is very good, the Safari currently lacks the option for a petrol engine, which many buyers are interested in.

To capitalize on the growing demand for petrol vehicles, the company is looking to launch the Safari petrol. It will also be launching the Harrier petrol. Currently, it is speculated that both models will make their debut in 2025. The exact date is yet to be revealed.

Tata Motors currently offers several best-selling cars. However, its flagship models, the Harrier and Safari, are both slow sellers. Last month, Tata Motors managed to dispatch a total of 1,951 units of the Safari. It also sold only 1,892 units of the Harrier in India.
