Upcoming Tata Sierra: 10 Things To Know

Tata Motors recently revealed the production version of its upcoming and highly anticipated mid-size SUV, the Sierra, in India. This legendary name will be making its return in a couple of months. Now, before its official launch, there are a lot of details that have already been revealed about the Sierra. So, if you are one of those people who want to know everything about it, here are 10 things about the soon-to-be-launched SUV.
The original Sierra was launched back in the 1990s and was the first-ever indigenously built SUV in India. Now, in 2025, the company will finally be bringing back this iconic nameplate to the lineup. This time around, the company will ditch the cool but impractical 3-door setup. Instead of that, it will now be offering a more practical and usable traditional 5-door SUV setup.
Tata Motors will not only be launching the ICE version of the Sierra; rather, it will also be launching it with an electric drivetrain as well. This will help the company in luring in as many buyers as possible.
The ICE versions will come with two options – a 1.5-litre turbo petrol making 178 bhp and 280 Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel making 170 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. As for the electric version, it could get a 75 kWh battery pack offering a range of more than 500 km.
The Sierra.ev, as per the reports, will be built on the brand's latest Acti.ev architecture. This new platform is a born-electric platform and will help the company in the accommodation of the larger 75 kWh battery pack. It will also offer
From the outside, the Sierra will look like a butch SUV that has been brought from the future. It will boast a boxy silhouette with an upright stance, paying homage to the original Sierra. It will also get split LED headlights and connected DRLs, a wide air dam with ADAS sensor, and flush-type door handles. The concept was seen with 19-inch wheels, which will most likely be offered in the high-spec models.
Tata Motors has cleverly designed the side profile of the Sierra. At a glance, many people will mistake it for a three-door. However, in reality, the company has blacked out the C-pillar, which hides the rear doors, giving it a three-door appearance.
The cabin of the upcoming Sierra has been meticulously designed to match the futuristic exterior design. It will get a floating-type 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There will also be a fully digital instrument gauge cluster, multi-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and electrically adjustable ventilated front seats.
As per the reports, the EV version of the Sierra could be getting an AWD system. The company will likely offer the higher variants of the Sierra.ev with a dual-motor setup, which will provide it with off-roading capabilities.
Tata Motors, like all of its recent cars, will keep safety as a priority and offer the Sierra with Level 2 ADAS. Its suite of ADAS will include features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree camera, and multiple airbags as standard.
Tata Motors, with the Sierra, will not only be taking on just a single segment. Rather, it will make sure that the Sierra competes with the popular mid-size SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and others. Along with them, the company aims to take on the lifestyle off-roaders like the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny. Lastly, it will also take on the EV SUVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara.
As per the reports, the Tata Sierra will first be launched as an electric SUV, and then the ICE version will be launched in India. It is expected to be officially launched before the end of 2025. The ICE variant will be priced around Rs 13 lakh; meanwhile, the EV version will cost around Rs 25–30 lakh.
