After many negotiations and meetings with the Indian government, many believed that the American electric vehicle manufacturing giant Tesla Inc. is ready to launch its cars in India. However, even after recently spotting three Tesla Model 3 electric sedans being transported on a flatbed in India, there is nothing to get excited about. The reason, you may ask? Well, these Tesla Model 3s are not for India. Let us explain.
Tesla Model 3s spotted in India
Recently, a video showing not one but a total of three Tesla Model 3 electric sedans on a truck has been shared on YouTube by Soumendra Sahu. However, the truth is that even though this truck was spotted in India, it has been reported that it was heading towards Nepal. Currently, Tesla has not officially launched its cars in Nepal; however, there are a few Teslas that have been imported into the country.
Tesla cars in India
It has to be mentioned that Tesla has not officially launched its cars in India. Like Nepal, there are still a few privately imported Tesla cars, including the Model S, Model 3, and Model X, in the country. One of the most prominent owners of a Tesla Model S is none other than the Ambani family. They have a blue Tesla Model S.
Will Tesla come to India?
Tesla has been mulling over entering India for a while now. It has been in talks with the current central government to reduce import duties. Due to this persistence, the Indian government even changed its EV policy. However, back in April-July of this year, Elon Musk, who was about to meet the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, called off the meeting.
Due to this, it was assumed that the company is not planning to enter the country anytime soon. But lately, it has been reported that the American electric carmaker has started looking for space for its first dealership in the capital of India — Delhi. Reportedly, Tesla has asked DLF, one of the largest real estate companies in the country, to look for a suitable location.
Now, when exactly Tesla will acquire a space, create its dealership, and launch its cars in India has not been revealed. However, it is believed that the automaker is getting serious about entering the third-largest car market in the globe. As for the cars, most likely Tesla will be launching the Model 3 in India first.
