This Modified Bajaj Pulsar Rides On Custom-made Hubless Wheels [Video]

Hubless bikes and cars are something you may have seen in several sci-fi movies. Now, you may wonder why these wheels are not available on our vehicles. The answer is that they are extremely difficult to make, and maintenance is also much harder. While we say “difficult,” there are some who have taken up this challenge and designed hubless wheels for their vehicles. Here, we have a video from a vlogger who actually designed and created a custom hubless wheel for his Bajaj Pulsar 150 motorcycle. Not only did he make it, but he also installed it on the bike and took it for a ride.

The video has been uploaded by Creative Science on their YouTube channel. It begins by showing how he made the wheels. He used high-carbon chromium steel for this project. Since this process requires expensive machinery and expertise, the vlogger contacted a factory that could forge the wheel out of this material. The steel was heated and then shaped into a large ring or wheel. They made two sets of wheels using this process, with each set consisting of two wheels, one slightly smaller than the other.

Both larger wheels have grooves on the inside, and the smaller wheel has grooves on the outside. These grooves were created to hold the steel balls that would be placed between these rings. In short, the hubless wheel acts as a large ball bearing. After this, the wheels were hardened to ensure they could handle the weight and pressure.

Following this process, he made some final touch-ups. A rim from the Pulsar was cut in half and welded to the custom-made outer rim. A tube was placed inside the rims to prevent the sharp edges from damaging the actual tube that would go inside the tire. A similar process was followed for the front wheels as well. The rear wheels also received a larger sprocket. After this process, the YouTuber began working on the swing arm. This is a custom-made unit made from metal pipes. Instead of modifying the existing swingarm, he chose to make a new one to suit his needs. He used two chains to transmit power from the engine to the rear wheels. The smaller wheel was attached to the swingarm and acted as the hub, while the outer wheel rolled, and the steel balls inside helped it stay in one place.

The bike had disc brakes for the rear wheels as well. The disc plate was installed not on the wheels but separately next to the smaller sprocket that connected the chain to the rear wheel. The dual shock absorbers on this bike were replaced with mono shock units. After installing all the parts, the vlogger took the bike for a ride, and the motorcycle worked perfectly. The idea of the hubless motorcycle is definitely unique and attracts a lot of attention on the road. The exact cost of this modification is not known. It is undoubtedly a neatly executed project; however, it is uncertain if law enforcement or other authorities would appreciate it.
