Mahindra BE 6

The BE 6 is probably the most exciting of the two Electric Origin SUVs that Mahindra recently revealed for the Indian market. It could even be the most exciting product on this list if all parameters and aspects were to be considered. It has been designed ground up and is underpinned by the INGLO platform.

At the time when it was revealed, the BE 6 was called the BE 6e, which landed Mahindra in trouble after Indigo sued the Indian SUV giant for wordmark infringement on ‘6E’ which happens to be the airline’s callsign and an integral part of branding. As an immediate response, Mahindra soon renamed the electric SUV into Be 6.

The BE 6 will come with two battery pack choices- 59 kWh and 79 kWh. It gets a rear-axle mounted electric motor that produces 280 hp and 380 Nm. The smaller battery pack will be able to deliver a range of 535 km per charge, while the latter will offer 682 km range.

Mahindra will showcase the BE 6 at the Expo and reveal its variant and price details. For now, we just know the entry prices (ex-showroom) of this EV. The official India debut could happen on January 17.

Mahindra XEV 9e

The XUV 700’s bigger electric coupe guise- the XEV 9e shares the same platform and mechanicals as the BE 6. Underpinning it is the same INGLO architecture and the rear-mounted motor that produces 282 hp and 380 Nm. The 59 kWh battery is claimed to deliver 542 km of range while the larger battery would deliver 656 km. Mahindra will officially launch the electric SUV in 2025. The starting price of XEV 9e is 21.9 lakh.

Hyundai Creta EV

The Creta EV is the first modern mass-market electric vehicle from Hyundai. It will likely borrow the underpinnings and powertrain of the Kona EV. It will come with the same 48 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of about 300 kilometers per charge. The electric motor too will come from the Kona and will produce 134 Bhp and 255 Nm. 0-100 Kph sprint would be done in 8-8.5 seconds. Upon launch, the Creta EV could have a price of around 20 lakh.

Tata Sierra (EV & ICE)

Tata Motors will resurrect the Sierra nameplate in 2025. The vehicle will have both EV and ICE versions to it. The EV is known to come first joined by the ICE version later. The Sierra EV will be underpinned by the Acti.EV platform while the petrol/diesel version will be based on the new-age ATLAS platform. While details on the ICE version are limited, the Sierra EV will come with a powertrain that can deliver a range of around 500 km. It will have both single motor and dual motor guises- meaning there will be AWD on offer.

The ICE version of Tata Sierra could come with a 2.0L diesel and 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engines. There will be both manual and automatic variants available.

Volkswagen Golf GTI

Volkswagen is known to launch the Golf GTI in India as a full import. It is likely to be priced at around 40 lakh rupees upon launch and will be brought as CBUs without homologation- just 2500 units will be available for sale every year. This hot hatch is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (EA888) that churns out 265 hp and 370 Nm. You can expect the launch in the second half of 2025.

MG Cyberster

The Cyberster is the next big launch from JSW MG Motor India and is essentially a two-seater convertible electric sports car. When launched, it will be sold through the MG Select premium retailer network. The India-spec will come with a 77 kWh battery pack and a dual motor setup. The powertrain will produce 510 hp and 725Nm. 0-100kph will be done in 3.2 seconds. The CLTC range will be around 580 km.

Renault Duster

Renault is expected to launch the all-new Duster in India, in 2025. The car was recently spotted testing in Kerala. It will come with a completely new design, better, more upmarket interiors and a turbo-petrol engine. The SUV will get a new 1.3-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (HR13DDT). It has been developed in collaboration with Nissan and is even found in certain Mercedes Benz models. Two states of tune are expected- 130 BHP/ 240 Nm and 150 BHP/ 250 Nm. The third generation Duster will be underpinned by the new-age CMF-B LS platform.

Octavia RS

Skoda India will launch the Octavia RS in India, as fully imported units. The CBU will thus be priced on the expensive side. It will have a reworked exterior, better interior, revised equipment list, and a powerful 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 265 bhp and 370 Nm. A 7-speed DSG will be the only transmission on offer. the Octavia RS will enter the performance sedan space and only limited number of units will be available to buy each year.

Tata Harrier EV AWD

It would thus become the first Tata EV to get AWD tech. Plus, it will have Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging abilities as well.

The Mahindra Thar ROXX is already a hot seller and commands a lot in waiting period. Currently, it is available with both petrol and diesel engines. Howevever, 4×4 tech is available only in the diesel variants. This means that you cannot have 4×4 if you are a petrol-only buyer. Considering the demand for the same, Mahindra is known to be working on a 4×4 version powered by the petrol engine. It could see the light of the day sometime in 2025.
