We’re just days away from the official launch of the Kia Syros – a compact SUV that will arrive on the 19th of December 2024. The South Korean automaker has just released yet another teaser of the Syros that shows the profile of the upcoming compact SUV fairly clearly. From the looks of it, the Syros looks like a Skoda Yeti from the side, and this is not a bad thing at all considering how unique the Yeti used to look when it was on sale in India. Here, check out the latest Syros teaser for yourself.
While the world is moving towards crossovers that are essentially hatchbacks on taller wheels and suspension, Kia Motors has adopted a bold approach with the Syros, bringing back butch lines that we also saw in the Kia eV9 flagship electric SUV.
From the sides, the Syros has a Yeti-like stance. There’s a short bonnet, large monobox passenger compartment, cladding on the doors, squared off wheel arches, a flat hatch lid, and roof rails to top it all off.
There is a prominent kink on the window-line, which remains more or less flat. It’s likely that the Kia Syros is taller than both the Sonet and Seltos. Where the design of the Syros will make a big departure from that of the Yeti-inspired profile is at the front and rear. The front gets triple LED headlamps with a boomerang shaped tail lamp while the rear gets Xmas tree-style LEDs, again accentuating the height of the car.
The Syros borrows its engines from the Sonet, but will be a turb0-only offering. The petrol motor will be the 1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged unit with 118 Bhp-172 Nm while the diesel will be the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged unit with 115 Bhp-250 Nm.
Both engines are expected to get 6 speed manual gearboxes as standard while a 7 speed twin clutch automatic option will be served with the petrol. The diesel motor will get the 6 speed, smooth shifting torque converter automatic gearbox.
While the Syros will be offered with a front wheel drive layout, the are terrain modes that will also be on offer. This prompts us to imagine whether Kia Motors will do the ‘unthinkable’ and actually offer an all wheel drive set up on the Syros. Well, we can’t really say for now. Given the fact that the Syros will have an all electric sibling, an all wheel drive layout on that model seems more likely as it’s much easier to integrate an extra electric motor on an electric car’s rear axle.
For now though, we do know that the Syros is going to be a feature-rich car just like every other Kia there is in the Indian market. A panoramic sunroof, multiple drive modes, wireless charging, ADAS, USB C-type charging points, ambient lighting, a striking infotainment console are the various bits that have already been revealed through teasers in the run up to launch.
In terms of pricing, the Syros will be positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos, and is expected to measure a little over 4 meters in length. In size terms too, it is expected to slot in between the Sonet and Seltos. We expect the new SUV to be about Rs. 1 lakh pricier than the Sonet, variant to variant. Over to the launch now.
