SUVs may dominate the Indian market, but there remains a niche group of buyers who still prefer sedans over SUVs. As manufacturers like Skoda attempt to breathe new life into the segment, a handful of sedans belonging to different price ranges are set to launch in India, in the coming months. Here are six upcoming sedan cars to watch out for:
New Maruti DZire | Next Month
One of the most anticipated sedan launches of this year is the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The new iteration of the sub-compact sedan is based on the outgoing Swift. It will feature significant departures in design, feature array, cabin layout and mechanicals. The sedan will look different from the hatchback with new headlamps with LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, grille, bumpers, tailgate, 15-inch wheels and tail lamps. The sedan will look sleeker and more appealing than before.
The interior will have major restyling gone into it, and will come with more features than before. A recent spy picture that showed the car without any camouflage, has confirmed the presence of a single-pane sunroof. Reports say that the car will have a dual-tone cabin colourway and a new dashboard layout. It will have a large touchscreen, automatic climate control, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, a heads-up display, a 360 camera, rear parking sensors, and 6 airbags.
The new Dzire is expected to be the second Maruti Suzuki model to feature the new Z series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which was first used in the fourth-generation Swift. The output is still unknown. It will have a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The new DZire will launch next month.
New Honda Amaze | Early Next Year
Honda’s top-selling model, the Amaze, is set for a facelift later this year. The refreshed version is expected to be launched by year-end, following its last minor update in 2022. This time, however, the changes are anticipated to be more significant.
The new Amaze is likely to be inspired by the next-gen City, featuring updates such as a redesigned grille, new LED headlights, and revamped alloy wheels. Inside, major upgrades are expected, including a larger infotainment screen potentially sourced from the Elevate SUV. Under the hood, the Amaze will likely retain the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, delivering 90 bhp of power and 110 Nm of torque.
Skoda Slavia Facelift | 2025 Festive season
Skoda introduced the Slavia compact sedan in India in 2022, targeting the sedan market. Just two years later, the automaker is planning for a mid-life update with several design enhancements. While the facelifted Slavia isn’t expected to arrive until around September next year, it will feature key changes like sharper headlamps, an updated grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and new alloy wheels.
Skoda might also add connected DRLs, similar to those on its rival, the Hyundai Verna. In terms of features, the facelifted Slavia is expected to come with more tech-driven additions, including an ADAS suite. The powertrain is likely to remain the same, with the sedan continuing to offer a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with manual and DSG automatic transmission options, as well as the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor. The launch is expected during the festive season of 2025.
Virtus Facelift | Mid 2025
The Virtus is essentially the Volkswagen version Slavia. It is also a product of the India 2.0 program. Much like the Skoda sedan, Virtus could also get a facelift by mid-2025. Styling changes and feature additions are expected on the facelift, further details of which are unknown at the moment.
Skoda Octavia 1.5 | Mid 2025
The 2024 Skoda Octavia facelift brings a refreshed front fascia, where most of the updates are concentrated. It now boasts a sharper Skoda grille, revamped LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and a new front bumper. Skoda has confirmed its plans reintroduce the sedan in India early next year. It will have the Slavia’s 1.5TSI engine instead of the previous 2.0L unit.
The global Octavia is equipped with a 1.5-liter EA211 EVO2 turbo petrol engine, delivering 150 horsepower. It boasts an Advanced Cylinder Deactivation Technology (ACT+), which lets it deactivate two cylinders during low-load conditions, thereby enhancing fuel efficiency. In markets outside, the engine is available with an optional mild-hybrid system, aptly named ‘e-tec’. The hybrid tech further boosts the car’s fuel efficiency.
Skoda Superb | 2025
In addition to the Octavia, Skoda could also bring back the Superb. The company reportedly has plans to reintroduce it as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) sometime next year. Initially, both the Superb and Octavia will be fully imported before Skoda considers local manufacturing of the two. The return of the Superb is also part of Skoda’s strategy to offer a premium sedan experience to its customers yet again.
