The year 2025 is going to be pretty exciting for car manufacturers. This year, we will see several Indian brands coming up with multiple electric vehicles. Mahindra has already launched the BE 6 and XEV 9e in the market. Another Indian manufacturer preparing for the EV race is Tata Motors. They have been working on the electric version of the Harrier for quite some time now. The Harrier EV has been spotted testing on the road several times, and we now have a new set of images that show the upcoming electric SUV being tested on a racetrack in Coimbatore.
The images have been shared by Rushlane on their website. The electric SUV has been spotted on the road several times, but this is the first time we have seen the Harrier EV on a racetrack. The production version of the SUV looks similar to the EV concept showcased by the manufacturer in 2023. The electric SUV was spotted testing at the CoASTT High-Performance Center or racetrack in Coimbatore.
Race tracks and SUVs are a combo that doesn’t sound very great. However, in this case, the electric SUV gets a powerful electric motor and battery pack. Tata was probably trying to push the SUV to its limits, which is pretty hard to do on public roads. They are likely testing the performance, and that is why the SUV was spotted on the track.
When compared to the ICE version, the Harrier EV is going to be much more powerful. As this is a brand-new SUV built from scratch, Tata has probably addressed several issues that were present in the earlier models. It is based on Tata’s Acti.ev pure electric platform. This is a skateboard platform that houses the battery pack under the floor.
This is part of the basic design rather than an afterthought, as we saw in the Tiago.ev, Nexon.ev, and Tigor.ev. With the battery placed under the floor, the center of gravity is pretty low, which will help the SUV perform well on the track.
Tata is aiming to compete with the XEV 9E with the Harrier EV. While the XEV 9E is currently available with an RWD setup, Tata is likely to offer the Harrier with a dual-motor setup or AWD system. There are also rumors that the Harrier EV will be more powerful than Mahindra’s electric SUV.
In terms of looks and design, we expect the SUV to resemble the ICE version. However, there will obviously be changes specific to EVs. For example, it will feature a closed front grille with a patterned design, Tata’s signature connecting LED bar (or as Tata likes to call it, the “Welcome bar”), and split headlamps on the bumper with LED elements.
Coming to the side profile, the SUV is likely to offer large 19-inch tires with aerodynamic wheels. These would be similar to the aero inserts seen in other Tata EVs. The rear will have LED tail lamps, a connecting bar, a redesigned bumper, and a Harrier.ev badge on the tailgate.
Tata will equip the SUV with premium features like ADAS, ventilated seats, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, and more. Tata is expected to price the Harrier EV competitively to make things interesting.
