Volkswagen India had recently hinted to us about a change in their strategies. As part of the updated strategy, the manufacturer is now forced to introduce more and updated models to India rather than focusing on electric vehicles. As part of the new strategy, Volkswagen has also confirmed that they’ll be bringing a sub-4 meter SUV to the Indian market. While we have to wait for a couple of more years for this sub-4 meter SUV, here are 3 big launches from Volkswagen for the year 2025:

Golf GTI

This is the biggest launch from the German car manufacturer. Volkswagen has been evaluating the market to introduce the Golf to India for years now. It is finally expected to arrive in the market by around August 2025. Volkswagen will be bringing this hot hatchback under the government’s homologation-free import route.

The Golf is an extremely popular hot hatch around the world. This is a hatchback, but that doesn’t mean everyone can afford it. When launched, it would probably become one of the most expensive ICE models from Volkswagen in the Indian market. The Golf GTI is likely to compete against the likes of the Mini Cooper S and is likely to be priced around the Rs 40 lakh bracket.

The Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 265 Bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG that sends power to the front wheels.

ID.4

During the brand conference earlier this year, Volkswagen had showcased the updated ID.4, and they had also shared their plans to launch the electric crossover in the market later this year. However, things didn’t go as per plan, and it looks like we have to wait till next year to see the ID.4 officially on Indian roads.

The ID.4 will serve as Volkswagen’s first electric vehicle in the Indian market, and it would also be the most expensive Volkswagen. It is built on the MEB platform and is available with two battery pack options. Internationally, it gets a 52 kWh and a 77 kWh battery pack option. The smaller battery pack offers around 340 km range, while the other version has a driving range of 500 km.

Volkswagen will be offering several premium features with the ID.4, along with a spacious cabin and safety features, including ADAS.

Taigun Facelift

Volkswagen’s popular SUV, the Taigun, has been in the market for a couple of years now. Volkswagen has offered updated versions of the Taigun with more features and variants since its launch. However, with rising competition in this segment, a facelift is necessary, and that is what Volkswagen is planning for the Taigun.

The updated Taigun is expected to come with minor changes to the front grille, headlamps, and front bumper. Other than this, it would also get a major feature update. It is expected to get features like a panoramic sunroof and Level 2 ADAS. The Taigun competes with cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder in the segment.

It will continue to draw its power from the same 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine for the GT variant, while the lower version will get the 1.0-liter turbocharged engine.
