After the lacklustre first half, car sales finally picked up impressively by 23 percent in October 2012 over October 2011, according to the Society of Automobile manufacturers.
The growth during the April-October 2012 over same period last year though was modest at 11 percent.

Utility vehicles drive overall growth
Sales of passenger cars grew just 3 percent with utility vehicles driving growth with 60 percent increase.
Maruti best-sellers show big spurt
When it comes to month-on-month sales growth, all the big sellers from Maruti Suzuki showed substantial growth.

The Alto seemed to have been buoyed by the launch of the new Alto 800 while Dzire has benefited from the restoration of production.
Hyundai registers modest to good growth
Maruti’s chief rival Hyundai did well too though the growth numbers weren’t as impressive with only Eon showing high growth. That i10 did not do too well despite attractive discounts was surprising:

Honda gets back in the ring
Despite the lack of diesel option, Honda saw its two best-seller register pretty good growth on the back of price rationalization and deals—perhaps a sign of how strong a player Honda can be if it were to shed its obsession with premium pricing:
