The Mahindra Thar is highly regarded for its robust appearance and powerful road presence, making it one of the most macho-looking vehicles in India. However, some individuals are purchasing the Thar based solely on its looks, as evidenced by the surge in sales of the rear-wheel drive variant over the 4WD version. Unfortunately, some Thar owners misuse the vehicle, disregarding other motorists and showcasing reckless behavior on the road. A recent viral video capturing a collision between a Mahindra Thar and an Audi A4 exemplifies this mindset.
The video, featured on the YouTube channel “Prateek Singh,” provides a detailed account of the incident. It is reported to have taken place in Uttar Pradesh, where an Audi A4, decorated for a celebratory event, is seen driving in the left lane. Suddenly, a black Mahindra Thar enters the scene from the left side, attempting to overtake the Audi A4. However, the Thar misjudges the available space, causing its rear wheel and right-side fender to collide with the front fender of the Audi A4. As a result, the sedan loses control and veers off the road.

The entire incident was captured by someone in another vehicle traveling alongside the Audi A4 in the adjacent lane. Fortunately, no casualties or significant damages were reported. However, some speculate that the Mahindra Thar driver intentionally collided with the Audi A4, perhaps to assert dominance over the sedan. The Thar was also observed traveling at an alarmingly high speed and attempting to overtake from the wrong side, demonstrating a lack of respect and knowledge of driving etiquette.
This incident highlights the dangerous practice of reckless driving on public roads, particularly among careless young drivers. Such behavior not only puts their own lives at risk but also endangers the lives of other motorists. It serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible and considerate driving for the safety of everyone on the road.
Do not perform stunts on public roads
Engaging in stunts or reckless behavior on public roads is strictly prohibited and can result in severe consequences. A recent incident in Mumbai serves as a reminder of the risks involved in such actions. A group of youths faced a six-month imprisonment for performing stunts on public roads. Although such incidents are not uncommon, they often go unnoticed by law enforcement unless captured on video or by CCTV cameras, prompting investigations.
The prevalence of viral videos has contributed to individuals getting into trouble, especially when their actions involve violating road rules. With the implementation of the online challan system, police now have the ability to issue fines even if they don’t witness the violation firsthand.
Major cities have established extensive networks of CCTV cameras that are closely monitored by dedicated police personnel. Violations are detected by tracking vehicle registration numbers, and fines are issued accordingly. However, it should be noted that some online challans may be erroneous due to faulty or incorrect number plates.
India has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with a significant number resulting in fatalities. Many lives are lost due to reckless driving and non-compliance with traffic rules. The purpose of surveillance systems is to deter individuals from engaging in dangerous maneuvers on the roads, ultimately improving overall road safety.
