The coronavirus pandemic has caused a nation-wide lockdown in India. The virus, which is known to be highly contagious transmits through small droplets of cough or sneeze of the infected person. While scientists are studying if the droplets remain airborne for a long time but current studies suggest that the virus may remain in the air for about 45 minutes to 3 hours depending on the situations. That is why medical professionals are advising to wear face masks to ensure that the airborne coronavirus does not enter a healthy person. Well, when the lockdown lifts up, you may have to continue to wear the mask to keep yourself safe. If travelling in a car, the virus may enter the cabin unless it has a HEPA air filter! In India, quite a few cars now offer factory-fitted HEPA filter to keep the pollutants out. These HEPA-equipped air purifiers will also keep the airborne coronavirus away. The HEPA filter has an extraordinary efficiency of stopping particles of size 0.01 micron or 10 nanometers. The size of the coronavirus is 125 nanometers. However, an air purifier alone may not keep you safe. The coronavirus will survive on metallic and plastic surfaces or days and that what most of the car is made up of. Still, these are the five cars that are equipped with HEPA filters in India.
