CarToq community votes for Ford EcoSport as most-awaited SUV

Whenever CarToq has carried a poll that had the Ford EcoSport in it, the results always swung in favour of the Ford EcoSport. The EcoSport has figured in at least three of our polls in the past few months, and somehow, it always manages to get a fair bit of attention.

This goes to show that the CarToq community thinks that the Ford EcoSport is a vehicle that can really become popular in India. It is the most-awaited SUV going by what the numbers show. Also read: Ford EcoSport automatic spy photos emerge

For instance, a couple of months ago, before the Tata Safari Storme, Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton and the Mahindra Quanto were launched, we carried a poll asking you, our community members, which one of the then upcoming SUVs/MUVs you thought was the most promising.

Of the total 826 votes polled, the Ford EcoSport got nearly 42% of the vote, with 345 saying that it was the most promising among all the upcoming SUVs at that time. The Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton too was quite a surprise coming in next with 255 votes, while not many were keen on the Tata Safari Storme. The Mahindra Quanto and Force One, didn’t excite many voters at all.

It’s not just in that poll. Around the time the Renault Duster was being launched, and there was considerable excitement around the Duster, we asked you in a quick snap poll for a few hours about which of these two SUVs you would prefer – the Renault Duster or the Ford EcoSport. Given the hype around the Duster, we were surprised to see a majority of 262 out of 323 votes going in favour of the Ford EcoSport!

That snap poll was followed by another tiny poll just to double check what the community was saying despite the Renault Duster having been launched – this was in July. We asked you the CarToq community, which was the better compact SUV – the Ford EcoSport or the Renault Duster. Again, an overwhelming 84% said the Ford EcoSport was the better compact SUV – and this is even without having seen the EcoSport, but only having read opinions and seen videos on it.

These polls go to show how eagerly the community seems to be awaiting the Ford EcoSport. The EcoSport is scheduled for a launch in February 2013. It is a compact, under-4-metre, five-seater SUV that will be pitted against the Renault Duster. It will come with a  1-litre EcoBoost petrol engine putting out 120 bhp of power with a five-speed manual transmission and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It will also come with a 1.5 litre diesel engine putting out 90 bhp with a five-speed manual transmission. Prices are expected to start at about Rs. 7 lakh and go up to Rs. 10 lakh.
