Maruti Suzuki is readying up the Ertiga MPV Facelift for a launch in 2015. The test mules of the facelifted MPV have already begun doing the testing rounds in India. The facelifted Ertiga will feature tweaks to the front and rear end styling with additional equipment likely to be added on the inside. The facelifted Ertiga is likely to be similar to the recently Swift Facelift in terms of changes. CarToq’s rendering expert has put together a render on how the Ertiga Facelift could look like.
In terms of the mechanicals, the 1.4 liter K-Series naturally aspirated petrol and the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engines will be retained, along with the manual transmission options that are currently on offer. In select cities of India where CNG dispensing infrastructure exists, the Ertiga is also available in CNG guise. Maruti Suzuki may offer a 4 speed automatic gearbox on the petrol engined model, like it does on the Indonesia-spec variant that is exported from India.
Adding an automatic gearbox option to the Ertiga’s variant line up is expected to give a new dimension to the vehicle as no MPV in India is sold with an automatic transmission option. The monocoque bodied Ertiga seats seven adults and comes with a front wheel drive layout. Based on a modified Swift platform, the Ertiga shares many parts with the likes of the Swift and the Dzire.
The facelifted MPV is not likely to get a large, upward price revision considering the rising competition. The Ertiga is one of India’s best selling MPVs, what with the Maruti Suzuki vehicle constantly trading the top spot in the segment with another best seller, the Toyota Innova. New MPVs will be launched in India during 2015, putting further pressure on the Ertiga. Nissan has lined up the Datsun Go+ for an early 2015 launch while Renault is expected to launch the Lodgy in March 2015.
