Hyundai has lined up the 2015 i20 Elite hatchback for a launch on the 11th of August, in time for the car to pull good numbers during this year’s festive season. Maruti Suzuki plans to counter the i20 Elite with a facelifted Swift hatchback. CarToq sources have revealed that Maruti Suzuki will launch the Swift Facelift in the next few weeks. The facelifted car will see minor design and feature upgrades. Daytime running lamps will make it to the space below the foglamps on the facelifted Swift, a-la-last gen Hyundai i20. The front bumper and grille will see a revision while the turn indicators will move to the wing mirrors, which will also get the auto fold function.
The car will gain a leather wrapped steering, keyless entry and push button start features while the Bluetooth functions for the audio and automatic headlamps are expected to be the other feature additions on the car. At the rear, the Swift Facelift is likely to see a relocated stop lamp. The car’s engines and transmissions will be unchanged though. A 1.2 liter-4 cylinder K-Series, naturally aspirated petrol engine that outputs 86 Bhp-114 Nm and a 1.3 liter-4 cylinder Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine with rated outputs of 74 Bhp-190 Nm, will be retained on the Swift hatchback, along with 5 speed manual transmissions.
The Swift is India’s best selling B+ hatchback and the facelifted model is aimed at keeping the car current as a slew of new hatchback offerings hit the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki will persist with the facelifted Swift for 3 more years, before a full model change in 2017. Next year, the Indian automaker plans to introduce a new B+ segment hatchback that will sit above the Swift. Code-named the YRA, the new Maruti Suzuki hatchback is a global product. The car is expected to bring in new features and a new range of turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines to Maruti Suzuki’s hatchback line up.
