Chevrolet Beat diesel is now officially the most fuel efficient car in India.
The Beat diesel has got a new claimed mileage of 25.44 kmpl which is up by over 1 kmpl compared to the earlier claimed mileage of 24 kmpl. The mileage of the Beat diesel now surpasses the Tata Indica eV2 and the Indigo eCS having a claimed mileage of 25 kmpl.
General Motors (GM) India has tweaked the engine calibration and claims to have reduced the drive-train loss (mechanical power losses) in order to improve the mileage. As a result of these changes, the International Centre for Automotive Testing (ICAT) has given it a certified fuel efficiency of 25.44 kmpl.
Engine and Performance
The Beat diesel is powered by a 1-litre, 3-cylinder diesel motor that puts out 57 bhp of power and 150 Nm of torque. Dubbed as the XDSE Smartech, this diesel engine is actually derived from the GM-Fiat’s 1.3-litre diesel motor, which again is a fuel efficient engine. The Beat’s lighter kerb weight and shorter gearing make it accelerate better than some of its rivals such as the Tata Indica eV2, Maruti Suzuki Ritz and the Ford Figo.
Stylish Hatchback
The Beat is a radically designed small car with a bold front face and Chevrolet’s signature grille (bow-tie), large goblin-like headlamps and smartly integrated fog lamps. The side profile of the car shows the recessed rear door handle, rising belt line and aerodynamic stance. The Beat’s rear has a twin-barrel tail light cluster which is quite attractive. The seven spoke alloy wheels, roof rails and rear roof spoiler on the top-end variant add a sporty flavor to this city car.
