General Motors (GM) India’s upcoming MPV, the Chevrolet Enjoy was caught testing near Mumbai and is expected to hit the market during the second half of this year.
The Enjoy will compete with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the 2012 Toyota Innova and the new Xylo.
The spy photos of the test mule had a camouflaged front and rear. The test mule lacked fog lamps as well as wheel caps hinting that it could be a base variant of the upcoming MPV. The MPV will likely have 7 or 8 seat configuration.
The Chevrolet MPV concept was showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The MPV Concept looked almost production ready as it is the Indian version of the Chevrolet CN 100 (Hong Guang) sold in the Chinese market. The Hong Guang was developed by GM-SAIC-Wuling in China with its suspension tuned by Britain’s Lotus Engineering.
The Enjoy MPV has simple, straightforward styling with smiling radiator grille. The side-swept headlamps and the leaf-shaped fog lamps give the MPV an elegant look. The rear of the MPV concept has conventionally designed wraparound tail lamps.
The interiors of the MPV are expected to house seven seats with a middle row of captain seats. A variant with an eight seat configuration could also be offered. With all seats used up, the Enjoy may offer very less boot space.
The Enjoy MPV will come with a 1.4-litre petrol motor that puts out 96 bhp of power rand 128 Nm of torque. The Enjoy diesel is scheduled for a later launch and will be powered by 1.3-litre XSDE motor which is GM’s version of the Fiat 1.3-litre Multijet engine. Pricing will be a key factor in determining the success of Chevrolet Enjoy in the market. We expect prices of the Enjoy to be between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 8 lakh.
