Citroen launched the C5 AirCross in our country which will be the flagship for the manufacturer. Their second vehicle for the Indian market will be a compact SUV that has been codenamed CC21. The CC21 has been spied on our Indian roads quite a few times but every time it was camouflaged. Now, the new compact SUV has been leaked from every angle because of a scale model. The scale model also shows the name of the new compact SUV as the “Citroen C3”.
The overall design elements of the C3 are in line with the C3 AirCross and the C5 AirCross. At the very first glance, a person should be able to recognize it as a Citroen because of its design language. The scale model is dual-tone in colour. The base colour is white with an orange roof. The same orange coloured accents can also be seen on various elements of the SUV.
Up-front we have a huge grille that takes the centre stage. It looks like the C3 will come with a split headlamp setup. The upper strip can be the Daytime Running Lamp that gets chrome continues to form the badge of Citroen. The main headlamp unit is mounted below the Daytime Running Lamp.
The headlamps get a chrome lining that ends up forming the rest of the Citroen badge. The front design of the C3 is much more angular when compared to the C5 AirCross which looks more rounded overall. We can also see fog lamps that get an orange surround. There is also an X-shaped silver faux skid plate.
At the side, there are 5-spoke precision cut alloy wheels. The turn indicators are mounted on the front fender and the outside rearview mirrors are finished in orange and black. The roof is also finished in the same orange colour and the roof rails are finished in black.
The rear of the C3 gets wrap-around LED tail lamps a chunky bumper with black cladding. There are two reflectors and a silver faux skid plate. The upright tailgate has a Citroen badge in the middle and C3 badging on the right side.
The C3 will be based on Peugeot’s CMP or Common Modular Platform. It is a very versatile platform that can be used to manufacture hatchbacks, mid-size SUVs, compact SUVs and sedans. It also supports different types of powertrains such as petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric.
The C3 will be offered with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It is expected to produce around 100 PS of max power and 150 Nm of peak torque. From the spy shots, we know that it will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There are also rumours that there can be a dual-clutch automatic gearbox on offer also. It is confirmed that there will be no diesel engine on offer with the Citroen.
Citroen C3 will be competing against the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Kia Sonet, Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 300, Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite.
