Citroen C5 Aircross for India officially unveiled

Citroen has just released the brochure of their upcoming SUV, the C5 AirCross. The brochure has helped in confirming the equipment level and features that the new SUV will be offered. The C5 AirCross dimensions measure 4500 mm in length, 2099 mm in width and 1710 mm in height. The engine specs of the AirCross have also been confirmed. So, it will be offered only with a 4-cylinder diesel engine that will produce 177 PS of max power and 400 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The claimed fuel efficiency claimed by Citroen for C5 AirCross is 18.6 kmpl. There are two variants on offer, namely Feel and Shine.

Citroen is marketing the C5 AirCross as the Smooth Unique Vehicle rater than Sports Utility Vehicle. That is because the main focus of the manufacturer was to offer a comfortable vehicle. So, they have worked extensively on the suspension to ensure that C5 delivers a flying carpet effect as the Citroen likes to call the ride quality of the SUV. The suspension with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions has been specifically developed by Citroen so the C5’s suspension smooths out the bad patches of road and also provides stability when going through a corner.

Then there are the seats that get broad cushions and seat backs that have been combined with high-density foam which ensures that the seats are comfortable for everyone. What’s interesting that the manufacturer has done is offering three independent seats instead of a single regular bench for the rear occupants. The rear seats can recline, slide and fold as per the requirement.

There is quite a bit of safety equipment on offer too. The C5 comes with park assist, coffee break alert, blind-spot monitoring, automatic LED headlamps, fog lamps with cornering function, hill start assist, reversing camera and electronic parking brake. There are tyre pressure monitoring system, 6 airbags, electronic stability program, hill descent control, traction control, front and rear parking sensors and ISOFIX mounts.

Citroen has ensured that the SUV offers many features such as LED projector headlamps(Feel variant gets halogen units), 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, push-button to start/stop, hands-free electric tailgate on the Shine variant, 6-way adjustable driver seat, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, heated outside rearview mirrors, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, cruise control, puddle lamps and a lot more.

Both the variants get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which is configurable. C5 also comes with Magic Wash which is basically automatic wipers in which the windscreen washers are integrated into the wipers itself ensuring that the windscreen is wiped completely and effectively. There are two driving modes on offer namely Eco and Sport. The higher variant also gets a panoramic sunroof that can open.

Citroen also offers Grip Control system which helps you if you are driving on tough terrain using the clever stability program. There are five modes on offer: Standard, Snow, All-terrain, Sand and Traction off. The Citroen C5 AirCross will be a CKD or Completely Knocked Down unit due to which it will be priced higher than the competitors. It will be competing against the Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep Compass. The price of the C5 Aircross has not been revealed. However, the manufacturer should announce the price soon.
