The French manufacturer – Citroen has officially announced their entry in the Indian market. The first vehicle from the brand will be the Citroen C5 AirCross, which will take on the likes of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson in the Indian market. With the growing popularity of SUVs in the Indian, Citroen has decided that their next two models for the Indian market will also be in the SUV form.
Their second vehicle will be a sub-4m compact SUV, which will be a shortened version of the C3 AirCross in the Indian market. It will take on the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the likes in the market and will be launched in 2021. Following the launch of the compact SUV, Citroen will launch a mid-size SUV that will bridge the gap between the existing products in the Indian line-up.
According to ACI, Citroen will launch its third model in the Indian market in 2022. It will be a mid-size SUV that will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and upcoming Kia Seltos. The all-new model will be specifically developed for the Indian market. It will be based on the C4 Cactus and will be localised heavily for the Indian market to ensure that it gets a very competitive price tag.
The details are not available at the moment but the all-new car is expected to get the signature Citroen design that set them apart from the rest of the vehicles in the market. The current version of the C4 Cactus looks very modern and gets sharp design features. The car gets a slim grille up front with the LED DRLs integrated to it. The LED DRL look like an extended part of the grille itself, which makes the C4 look unique. It gets a small grille but the headlamps placed on the bumpers have huge housings and they dominate the front-end of the car. Further down below, the foglamps are placed in contrasting housings that further makes the car look extremely good.
The engine options are also not known as of now. However, it may get powered by the same engine options that will power the sub-4m Citroen SUV in India. Citroen may use the 1.2-litre turbocharged-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine in the Indian market to power the cars. We can also expect the upcoming SUV to get a mild hybrid or full hybrid system.
The mid-size SUV segment will see the launch of many new cars in the recent future to take on the Creta. After the launch of the Kia Seltos, Tata will launch the production version of the Blackbird SUV in the market. It should be noted that Hyundai is working on the all-new Creta for the Indian market too.
