Citroen’s 3 new cars for India detailed

Citroen recently showcased their first vehicle for India, which is the C5 AirCross. It is their flagship SUV for the Indian market and Citroen likes to call it “The Comfort Class”. The SUV has already hit the “La Maison Citroen” dealerships which translates to “Home of Citroen”. The French automaker is taking the Indian market quite seriously and are already developing 3 new vehicles that will launch in India. Expanding their portfolio will help Citroen in appealing to more people and the sales will increase too. The three new vehicles belong to three different segments and today we give you details about all three of them.

Compact-SUV or CC21

The compact-SUV is the most competitive segment and it is the segment that is in the most demand. So, it makes sense that Citroen brings a compact-SUV in the Indian market. It has been codenamed CC21 and will be heavily localized unlike the C5 AirCross which is a CKD or Completely Knocked Down Unit. The CC21 has been spied on our Indian roads and it does looks smaller than other compact-SUVs. Due to which it seems like it will be going against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, upcoming Tata HBX and the Mahindra KUV100. But this will help in pricing the CC21 very competitively around Rs. 5 lakhs ex-showroom. It will get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which will produce 100 PS of peak power and 150 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a manual and an automatic transmission. It is expected to come with flexi-fuel system which means that it will be able to run on regular petrol and ethanol blends (from 27% to 100%). It will be the first vehicle in India to offer flexi-fuel system and Citroen really wants to take the first-mover advantage here.

Mid-size SUV or CC24

Citroen is also working on a mid-size SUV that will be rivalling the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and the Kia Seltos. It is codenamed CC24 and will be launching in June 2022. Citroen is hoping to produce 2,200 units per month. The demand for SUVs is increasing that is why Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta are such a huge hit in the Indian market. The SUV will be based on the CMP platform which will also underpin the C21 compact-SUV. The design inspirations will be taken from the C4 Cactus which is sold in the international markets. It is also expected to be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which will be on the smaller compact-SUV. However, for the CC24, it will be in a higher state of tune to produce more power and torque.

Mid-size Sedan or CC26

The final product that Citroen is developing for India is a mid-size sedan that will be rivalling the Hyundai Verna, maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and the Honda City. The new sedan is being called CC26 internally and it will hit the production in 2023. It makes sense that Citroen is working on SUVs first and then on sedan because currently SUVs are selling in much more numbers when compared to sedans. It is expected that the sedan will be based on PSA’s CMP platform. The platform is specifically made to adapt different body styles such as compact-SUV, mid-size SUV, sedans, hatchbacks and MPV. Also, it can accommodate different powertrains, such as petrol, diesel, hybrid or even electric. It is also expected to be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will do duty on the CC24 mid-size SUV.
