CarToq Community Member Pramod Kumar Sah asked whether the Toyota Corolla Altis is better than the Chevrolet Cruze. Here’s what the community had to say.
CarToq Expert Roshun Povaiah said, “It depends on what you are looking for in the car. The Cruze is what people call a ‘diesel rocket’, it’s a performance oriented diesel sedan, but not very spacious. The Altis on the other hand has good ride quality and is relatively spacious. The petrol Altis is very refined, while the diesel is a serious mile-muncher, but better in the hands of a chauffeur.”

Similarly CarToq Expert Rishabh P Nair pointed out that; “In terms of performance the Cruze is better, much better. If you want a relaxed car to be chauffeur driven in then the Altis makes sense.”
Another CarToq Expert, Shreyans Jain said, “The Cruze is a great highway car but the turbo lag and the heavy clutch make it a pain in the city. Corolla Altis is one car which does almost everything right. It’s really spacious and comfortable. The petrol is very refined and has a competent automatic option. The diesel while not being the best to drive offers fantastic economy. And then, breakdowns are unheard of on this car. My vote goes to the Toyota.” Now let’s take a closer look at how these two sedans compare.
Price
The Toyota Corolla Altis is priced in the range of Rs. 11 lakh to Rs. 15.43 lakh. The Chevrolet Cruze is priced at Rs. 12.54 lakh for the base variant and Rs.15 lakh for the top end variant. Now while the Cruze is available only in 3 diesel variants, the Altis is available is 7 different variants 3 diesels and 4 petrol. Which means the Altis not only starts at a lower price point but also gives buyers more choices. The top end diesel Altis costs Rs. 15.23 lakh which is roughly Rs.20,000 more than the top of the line Cruze.
Power and performance
Since the Cruze is available only in diesel we will compare only the diesel engine options of the two sedans. The Altis has a 1364 cc, 4-cylinder engine that makes 87 Bhp of power and 205 Nm of torque. The Cruze has a 1991 cc, 4-cylinder engine that makes 149 Bhp of power and 327 Nm of torque. The Cruze is definitely the car to go for if you are looking for power and performance, the Altis is nowhere near the Cruze in terms of pure power and torque! In terms of driving and handling also the Cruze feels sportier. For more information go to our Toyota Corolla Altis car research hub.

Features
In terms of features both the cars are well equipped but the Cruze steals the cake with its sunroof which is not available on any variant of the Altis. The Cruze also comes with parking sensors which the Altis diesel does not come equipped with, although you can get them as a dealer accessory. On the other hand the Altis has headlight washers, projector headlamps with HID’s and power adjustable seats. For more information go to our Chevrolet Cruze car research hub.
The Cruze also comes with an automatic transmission which again is not available on the Altis diesel. Which of these two sedans do you think is better leave your views in the comments section below!
