A top Mahindra official has confirmed to FactorDaily that electric versions of a range of SUVs are being developed by the Indian utility vehicle giant. The official also revealed that plans for the Electric Scorpio & XUV500 are already on, and that soon the entire utility vehicle portfolio of the automaker would be electrified.
Here is his statement on this subject,
Almost all passenger vehicles in Mahindra’s portfolio will have an electric variant…Plans for the electric Scorpio and XUV are already on. Others will follow.
What this means is the entire utility vehicle range of Mahindra, comprising of the KUV100, Bolero, TUV300, Scorpio and XUV500 will be able to also run on electricity in future. Currently, most of these vehicles are sold as diesel-only models. Only the KUV100 and XUV500 are offered with petrol engine options.
Mahindra’s electric vehicle subsidiary – Mahindra Electric – has already revealed timelines for the launch of the electric variants of the KUV100, S201 Electric (Ssangyong Tivoli-based compact SUV) and the XUV Aero (a concept coupe-crossover that’ll soon go into production).
Mahindra Electric already sells two passenger cars – the E2O 4 door and eVerito – electric vehicles in the Indian market. The eVerito is also sold to the Indian government, which plans to use it for officials in various government departments. In future, a range of electric SUVs from Mahindra will be offered to buyers across India.
Notably, the KUV100 Electric is expected to be showcased at the upcoming 2018 Indian Auto Expo. Months ago, a test mule of the vehicle was spied testing on Indian roads. The KUV100 Electric will have a battery range of 350 kilometers, a very impressive top speed of 186 Kph, and a 0-100 Kph timing of just 11 seconds. More details about pricing and availability are expected to be revealed at the Auto Expo. Also expect the Mahindra Aero Electric to make it to the Expo.
