2020 Tokyo Olympics was the most successful Olympic in India’s history, and a number of automotive brands came forward to commemorate this by rewarding the participants from the nation. Recently MG Motor India expressed their appreciation for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics silver medalist Bhavina Patel with a customised Hector SUV.
The SUV was awarded to para-athlete Bhavina Patel by the company’s Chief Technical Officer Jayanta Deb in association with The Vadodara Marathon. This MG Hector has been fully customized to be of service to the para-olympian. It features meticulously engineered wheelchair attachments, along with hand-controlled levers to operate the accelerator and brakes of the SUV. It also comes equipped with a DCT transmission and engine start/stop button to proffer an effortless driving experience.
Upon receiving this gesture from the British motoring brand Bhavina Patel said, “I truly appreciate this thoughtful gesture by MG Motor and the Vadodara Marathon. It gives me immense joy to call this completely customized Hector my own. It is a stunning vehicle at the forefront of innovation in our mobility ecosystem, and I look forward to experiencing its power from the driver’s seat. Along with the mobility, this fantastic car also brings to me a sense of independence and empowerment.”

The MG Hector was India’s first-ever internet car which had 50+ connected features. This year in February the SUV received a subtle facelift which gave it some minor cosmetic changes like larger 18-inch alloy wheels along with new front and rear scuff plates. Additionally, a new Starry Blue exterior colour option is also now available on the Hector. On the inside, the SUV gets an update to the infotainment system called the i-smart that now supports Hinglish voice commands.
MG Hector is offered with a multitude of drivetrains ranging from petrol, petrol hybrid and diesel. Along with the transmission options of a 6-speed manual, 7-speed DCT and a CVT gearbox as well.
Various other OEMS apart from MG have also felicitated other Olympians. Mahindra awarded a personalized XUV700 to gold medalist Paralympian Avani Lekhara. They also honoured Javelin Gold Edition SUVs to Neeraj Chopra and Sumit Antil. Tata Motors also provided a warm gesture of appreciation to the athletes that missed the medals by a tiny margin. They honoured those athletes with their premium hatchback Altroz in High Street Gold colour. Renault also came forward and awarded its newest offering Kiger to wrestlers Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Bajrang Punia, and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu.
