Global car buyers have started accepting electric vehicles and are now looking for affordable EVs in the market. Taking note of this increasing demand, the French automaker Renault’s sister brand, Dacia, has recently revealed the all-new Spring EV in the international markets. Now, at the moment, if this new electric hatchback will be coming to India or not has not been revealed. However, if it does get launched in the country, it will compete directly with the Tata Tiago EV. So we thought that we should bring to you a detailed specification comparison of the two electric hatchbacks.

Starting the comparison with the exterior, the Dacia Spring EV, which currently is in its second generation, features a bold-looking exterior which reminds us of the all-new Dacia Duster. It flaunts slim, horizontal LED daytime running lamps that integrate into a gloss black grille with off-white inserts. In the middle, it boasts the new Dacia logo at its center, which also opens up and reveals the charging port. The overall profile exudes a butch appeal, reminiscent of its predecessor, which for those who may not be aware was the Kwid EV. Meanwhile, the Tata Tiago EV maintains the familiar design language of its ICE-powered counterpart but adds distinctive electric blue accents around the body and headlamps. It gets Tri-arrow Y-shaped elements on the air dam and a closed-off grille and some EV badges around the body.

In terms of dimensions, the Dacia Spring EV boasts a length of 3,701 mm, which is slightly shorter than the Tata Tiago EV’s 3,769 mm. While the Spring EV offers a width of 1,767 mm, the Tiago EV measures slightly narrower at 1,677 mm. Additionally, the Tata Tiago EV stands taller at 1,536 mm, compared to the Spring EV’s 1,519 mm. As for the wheelbase of both cars, the Dacia Spring EV offers a wheelbase of 2,423 mm, which is slightly longer than Tiago EV’s 2,400 mm wheelbase.

Interior design and features

Coming to the cabins of both cars, the new Spring EV’s dashboard looks very similar to the rugged design of the new-gen Duster. It gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and HVAC controls borrowed from the Duster. It also gets a 7-inch digital instrument gauge cluster as well. The international markets model also gets advanced driver assistance systems such as lane-keeping assistance and emergency braking bolster safety standards.

On the other hand, the Tata Tiago EV boasts a similar interior to its ICE counterpart. The only major difference is that it gets blue accents throughout the interior, which complement the leatherette steering wheel and seats. It also gets a rotary dial that replaces the gear lever for the drive mode selector. The Tiago EV gets 45 connected car features which can be accessed via the ZConnect app, along with hill start and descent assist, automatic climate control, and more.

Powertrain and performance

As for the main differences which lie under the bonnet or shall we say floors of these electric hatchbacks. The all-new second-generation Dacia Spring EV internationally comes equipped with a single electric motor which delivers either 45 bhp or 65 bhp to the front wheels depending upon the variant selected. It also gets a decently sized 26.8 kWh battery which provides a claimed range of over 220 km. Charging options include 11 kW AC for 45hp variants and 30 kW DC for 65hp variants, catering to diverse charging needs.

On the other hand, India’s most popular electric car, the Tata Tiago EV, boasts Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture, coupled with lithium-ion battery packs of 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh capacities. The Tata Tiago EV is offered with a claimed range of 250 km for the 19.2 kWh variant and 315 km for the 24 kWh variant. Acceleration from 0-60 kph ranges from 5.7 seconds to 6.2 seconds. A fast DC charger can charge the batteries from 10% to 80% in just 57 minutes. Meanwhile, the 7.2 kW AC home charger takes 3 hours 36 minutes to charge the battery from zero to full.

Pricing and availability

In terms of pricing, the Tata Tiago EV is currently priced in the country with prices starting from Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the Dacia Spring EV’s pricing and availability in India are currently uncertain. However, most likely if launched in the country it will be introduced as the Kwid EV and it will be priced in the same range as its primary rival the Tiago EV and other competitors in the segment.
