The international premiere of the Datsun Go Cross compact SUV will happen at Jakarta, Indonesia, on the 18th of January, 2018. The brand new Datsun will also be shown in India, during the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. The Go Cross is likely to be launched in the Indian market by the end of this year. It’ll be the most expensive Datsun car sold in India.
From spyshots available on the internet, it seems as if the Go Cross is a raised, butch version of the Go+ 7 seater. Styling is slightly different at the front and the rear, and the new car also looks taller. The engines and transmissions for the Go Cross are expected to be revealed during the official premiere, after which the compact SUV is expected to start selling in the Indonesian market.
The 1.2 liter petrol engine, lifted from the Go and Go Cross is likely to be standard on the new vehicle. This engine produces 67 Bhp of peak power and 104 Nm of peak torque, and is sold with a 5 speed manual gearbox. A CVT automatic gearbox is already available as this engine also powers the Nissan Micra, which gets the CVT option. A diesel engine is not likely for the Indonesian market, which prefers petrols.
For the Indian market, it remains to be seen of Nissan and Datsun add a diesel engine to the Go Cross. SUV buyers in India predominantly opt for diesel powered SUVs and it will be interesting to see if Datsun takes a petrol-only approach on the Go Cross. So far, none of the Datsun cars sold in the India – the Go, Go+ and RediGO – offer diesel engines. Will this change with the Go Cross? We’ll have to wait for the Auto Expo to find out. The Go-Cross, which will be built on the Nissan V platform, can support a diesel engine if needed as the Micra (also based on the V-Platform) used to be offered with the 1.5 liter K9K diesel.
