With the Datsun Go low cost hatchback all set to go on sale in India in a few days from now, Nissan India is said to have begun making way for the new small car. According to Motorbash, the Japanese car maker has given the Micra Active’s base XE variant the boot. However, the Micra Active’s XE variant continues to be present on Nissan India’s official website.
Nissan launched the Micra Active, a pre-facelift version of the hatchback, as a cut price variant after facelifting the Micra. By pricing the XE variant of the Micra Active at 3.5 lakh rupees, Nissan India shocked the market. The car was launched in July last year. Going by the car’s performance at the hustings, the Micra Active hasn’t done much to boost the overall sales of the hatchback in India.
Now though, with the Datsun Go poised to occupy the 3-4 lakh rupee price bracket, the Micra Active XE continuing to be offered at a price poing lower than the Go hatchback will dilute Brand Nissan, which explains why the XE variant has been given the heave ho. The other three variants of the Micra Active, the XL, XV and XV-S will continue to be produced, with prices ranging between 4.19 lakh rupees and 4.8 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi.
In terms of mechanicals, the Micra Active is similar to the Datsun Go, what with both the cars using a detuned 1.2 liter-3 cylinder engine in 67 Bhp-104 Nm state of tune. Notably, the Datsun Go is based on the Nissan Micra’s V-Platform underpinnings. Nissan has been spotted testing a diesel engined variant of the Micra Active, leading to speculation that the Micra Active range will soon jump on to the diesel bandwagon. The 1.5 liter K9K turbo diesel engine (65 Bhp-160 Nm) is likely to be offered on the diesel variants of the Micra Active.
