DC Design has finally put a launch date in front of the Avanti sportscar. CarToq sources reveal that the DC Avanti will be launched on the 15th of April, 2015. DC Design dealers across the country have already begun taking bookings for the car, with the booking amount being pegged at 15 lakh rupees.
The DC Avanti is priced at 34.93 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Bangalore, and the car is made-to-order. This means that paying the booking amount to the dealer will get the wheels moving at DC Design’s Talegaon factory, off Pune. Once the booking is made, 2-3 months is what dealers say they need to deliver the car.
The DC Avanti is India’s first homegrown sportscar that promises serious performance at a price point that many buyers may find within reach. The low slung car sits on a tubular space frame chassis that is TIG welded. Unequal length wishbones up front and coil over springs at the rear make for the car’s suspension.
The DC Avanti is powered by a 2 liter turbocharged, direct injection petrol motor that makes 250 Bhp of peak power and 366 Nm of peak torque. The motor is mated to a six speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels of the car. The car rides on 20 inch wheels that feature disc brakes assisted with ABS+EBD.
Though the DC Avanti is low slung, it seems to be designed with Indian road conditions in mind. How else will you explain a 170 mm ground clearance on a car that measures just 1,213 mm in height. The DC Avanti’s 1,532 kilogram kerb weight means that the car will be quick but not scathingly so. 0-100 Kph will be dispatched in a claimed 6 seconds.
DC Design will limit top speed of the Avanti sportscar to 180 Kph, in the interest of safety on Indian road conditions, which are unpredictable in the best of conditions. So there, the Avanti will officially be launched in two weeks’ time. In the next couple of years, more DC Design cars will make the cut into production. Here’s an overview.
