The Chinese are quite (in)famous for copying stuff. They have come up with cheaper iterations of apparels, electronics and even motorcycles. Here are a handful of copycat bikes from China.
UM Motorcycles, which claims to have an American origin, has come up with a KTM Duke clone for the Chinese market. While the Xtreet 250X isn’t an exact copy, it gets pretty much the same design for the trellis frame, the fuel tank shrouds, split seats and the rear mudguard. Of course, the engine will be different and isn’t likely to have liquid-cooling. It also won’t be as powerful as the Duke 200.
C8 Tomahawk vs KTM Duke
Here’s another motorcycle that tries to mimic the KTM Duke. It’s called the C8 Tomahawk and looks a fair bit like the Duke. It certainly looks quite attractive and is available in 3 variants – 150cc, 250cc and 300cc.
Gulsar vs Bajaj Pulsar
The highly popular Bajaj Pulsar has been copied by the Chinese. It’s called the Gulsar. The Gulsar is being sold even in Latin America, where Bajaj sells the Pulsar. As you can see above, the Gulsar looks exactly like the Pulsar.
NT200 vs NS200
Like the older Pulsar, the NS200 has been copied by the Chinese. The copycat is powered by a 197cc engine that outputs 17 bhp and 15 Nm. On the other hand, the NS200’s 200cc engine outputs 23 bhp and 18 Nm.
Wonjan WJ300 Space Ranger vs Ducati Panigale 1098
Yes, the Chinese have even copied the Ducati Panigale 1098. Made by Wonjan, the clone gets a 300cc engine that outputs 19.5 bhp and 24 Nm. In comparison, the Panigale gets a 1099 cc engine making 160 Bhp & 123 Nm, while the Chinese counterpart only has a 300 cc engine making 19.5 Bhp & 24 Nm.
Wonjan WJ150 vs Honda Grom
Even the li’l Honda Grom has been copied by the Chinese. It is known as the WJ 150 and has a 150cc engine that outputs 13.1 bhp & 11.4 Nm.
Jonway YY250 vs BMW F650 CS
While the BMW F650 CS wasn’t the most popular motorcycle of its time, it has been copied by a Chinese manufacturer called Jonway. Known as the YY250, the motorcycle has a 250cc motor that outputs 16 bhp. The original motorcycle, on the other hand, had a 652cc engine that offered 50 bhp and 62 Nm.
ZJMM R12 vs Honda CBR250 R
Yes, even the Honda CBR250 R has been copied by the Chinese. The clone is called ZJMM R12. Made by Zhejiang Jiajue, the clone is available with 125cc and 250cc engines.
Leike Thunderer vs BMW S1000RR
Leike Thunderer is a copy of the mighty BMW S1000 RR. While the Chinese clone isn’t an exact copy, it does look a lot like the Bimmer. It even gets three slats on each side of its fairing and a similar headlamp arrangement.
Yayama R6 vs Yamaha R6
Here’s a copy of the Yamaha R6 and it’s called the Yayama R6, we kid you not. While the R6 gets a high-strung 600cc engine, the Yayama R6 has a 150cc motor.
Jiangsu Xinr vs Honda Goldwing
The Chinese have cloned the mighty Honda Goldwing. Basically, Chinese manufacturer Jiangsu Xinr has come up with a copy of the motorcycle. However, while the original Goldwing comes with a 1.8-litre engine, the Chinese copy gets an electric motor.
Kengo 350 vs Kawasaki Ninja 300
The Kawasaki Ninja 300 has been copied by a Chinese manufacturer called Kengo. The Kengo 350 looks a fair bit like the Japanese motorcycle but gets a different engine. While the Ninja 300’s 300cc motor outputs 39 bhp and 27 Nm, the Kengo 350 offers only 23 bhp and 25 Nm from its 320cc engine.
