Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ertiga: More details now out

Spyshots of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV testing on Indian roads have revealed key new details. The all-new MPV, based on the Suzuki HEARTECT platform, is expected to get a 6-speed manual gearbox, as indicated by the spyshots. The MPV is also expected to get beige interiors, similar to the Indonesian version. The all-new Ertiga is just months away from being launched in India. It will replace the first-generation Ertiga in the private car buyer market. However, the first-generation Ertiga will continue to be sold in India for the cab market under the ‘Tour’ badging.

For now, it’s not clear if the Ertiga will make it to NEXA showrooms or if Maruti will continue to sell the MPV from its Arena range of dealerships. What we do know is that the Ertiga will get both petrol and turbocharged diesel engine options. The petrol motor will be a brand new 1.5-litre K-Series unit, which makes more power and torque than the 1.4-litre K-Series motor it replaces.

The new engine will produce 106 PS and 138 Nm, and will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. There will be a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox offered as an option. The diesel motor will be the tried-and-tested 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet unit with 89 Bhp-200 Nm on tap.

This motor will continue to be paired with the 5-speed manual gearbox and it remains to be seen if Maruti Suzuki offers an AMT option with this engine. The new Ertiga is expected to get lighter thanks to the use of the HEARTECT platform, and the lower weight is expected to translate into better pick-up and fuel efficiency.
