Tata launched the high-performance Tiago and Tigor JTP in the Indian market. They are the most affordable 100 Bhp vehicles available in the market and both of them will be updated in the coming days. Both the vehicles will receive several feature updates that will make the cabin feel more comfortable and premium. The updated JTP twins will get a brand-new 7.0-inch touchscreen unit that will replace the current 5.0-inch display. The new unit will also get the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, which has become a standard feature in most modern cars. Also, both the JTP twins will get automatic folding mirrors, which will ensure that the outside rearview mirrors automatically fold down when the vehicle is locked. These features are available with the top-end XZ+ variant of the standard Tiago and Tigor. It is not known if the price of the updated vehicles will be affected by the new feature updates.

The Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP get a range of features including projector headlamps, 8-speaker system from Harman, steering-mounted controls, driver information display, all four power windows and driving modes. Safety-wise, both the vehicles get standard features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, driver seatbelt reminder and follow-me-home headlamps.

The updated cars will carry forward the same engine. It is not known if Tata will launch the BS6 compliant engines but highly likely, the BS6 updates will be launched closer to the BS6 deadline, which is on 1st April 2020. Currently, both Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP will remain powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine. It develops a maximum power of 114 PS and peak torque of 150 Nm. Tata offers only a 5-speed manual transmission with the JTP models.

The first two JTP twins will be followed by more launches in the future. Tata and Jayem Engineering of Coimbatore joined hands to develop the new performance models and the concept of these vehicles was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. JTP stands for Jayem Tata Performance and the new arm will develop performance vehicles based on the regular Tata cars. The JTP division is similar to the likes of AMG, which is a high-performance arm of the German manufacturer. Similarly, SVR is the high-performance arm of the Jaguar Land Rover.

Currently, Tata is developing the next JTP model, which will be based on the Nexon. Tata is also working on the facelifted versions of the Tiago and the Tigor and the same updates are expected to be launched in the JTP models too.
