Facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan launching soon: AllSpace, T-Roc discontinued

While Volkswagen is prepping up for launching the all-new Tiguan midsize SUV in India on December 7, the German carmaker has cut short its lineup by discontinuing the Tiguan AllSpace and T-Roc SUVs in India. Both these SUVs were launched in 2020 in limited numbers after being showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and generated a strong response by customers across the country for their engineering prowess. While the Tiguan AllSpace has been removed from the website, the T-Roc is still listed on it. However, the Volkswagen dealers across India have stopped taking new bookings for the T-Roc.

What could be the reasons for discontinuation?

Unlike the Tiguan, which will be locally assembled here in India, the Tiguan AllSpace and T-Roc were imported in India through the CKD route. Both the SUVs received noteworthy facelifts globally in 2021, which included visual tweaks in and out and new feature additions. Volkswagen might have pulled the plug off from both the SUVs for the time being, which might return to India in their facelifted forms, as both the SUVs have been popular among Volkswagen’s enthusiasts. Both the SUVs remained on sale for about a year.

Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace

The Tiguan AllSpace was launched in India as a replacement model to the previously available diesel-powered Tiguan, which was discontinued in the wake of BS6 emission norms. This SUV was essentially a seven-seater version of the Tiguan, with enhanced dimensions to accommodate the third row of seats. It was powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which will be available in the upcoming Tiguan. Available with a 7-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive as standard, this engine makes 190 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. The Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace was available in a single full-spec variant at Rs 34.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Volkswagen T-Roc

The T-Roc was launched in India along with the Tiguan AllSpace as a unique proposition in the premium compact SUV category. Like the Tiguan AllSpace, the T-Roc too was available in a single fully-loaded variant. The T-Roc had the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is being offered currently in Taigun as well. Offered with a 7-speed DSG, this engine makes 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and is the smallest engine to feature cylinder deactivation technology in India. The T-Roc was launched in India at Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). However, with the first lot of 1,000 units quickly sold out, the next lot was launched at a higher price point of Rs 21.35 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Apart from the new Tiguan, which will replace the Tiguan AllSpace as the new flagship model, Volkswagen will also launch the new Virtus sedan, which is set to replace the ageing Vento in its Indian lineup. The new sedan will be bigger than the Vento and will share its mechanical underpinnings with the soon-to-be-launched Skoda Slavia.
