The Supreme Court of India recently delivered a heavy blow to the customization and modification industry of India. Almost anything you do on your car has been deemed illegal which includes giving your ride a custom look. However, there is no such ban on customizations if it’s offered by the manufacturer itself. Which brings us to Mahindra as the auto manufacturer has been offering factory-built custom versions of its regular SUVs that help owners to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Let’s take a look at 11 such cars that come modified straight from Mahindra.
KUV Xtreme
The KUV100 is the most affordable vehicle in Mahindra’s model lineup. It comes across as a micro SUV type design and chiefly rivals the Maruti Suzuki Ignis in its price range. However, the meek and nimble KUV100 got a full makeover at the 2018 Auto Expo when Mahindra showcased the KUV Xtreme. This was a custom built KUV100 that seemed to be on steroids. The extremely butch styling looks surprisingly cool on the car and it gets several elements which further enhance its aggressive styling. Overall, the KUV Xtreme is not for the faint-hearted hatchback buyer.
TUV Armour
Next up is the Mahindra TUV Armour which is basically a custom take on the ladder-frame TUV300 SUV. Don’t be mistaken though, it isn’t an armoured vehicle but a regular TUV300 with a few aesthetic modifications in place. It actually gets a whole load of custom accessories and cladding added on, something that transforms this SUV into a vehicle ready to go to war. Hence the name, TUV Armour.
Thar Daybreak
The Thar Daybreak was one of the major attraction points at the Mahindra stands during the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. It is a heavily customised version of the Thar that gets a host of cosmetic upgrades. This includes LED DRLs at the front and LED taillamps at the rear along with redesigned doors and modified bodywork. Other changes on the Daybreak edition include a factory-fitted wrench bolted onto a custom front bumper, a hood scoop and raised ground clearance along with snorkel and tweaked suspension setup.
Thar Wanderlust
Moving on, we see another special edition Mahindra Thar that stole the show at the Delhi Auto Expo. However, the year this time around was 2018 and the vehicle was named as Thar Wanderlust. It is, in fact, a tweaked version of the Daybreak edition Thar, albeit more stylish. It gets gullwing style rear doors, new front grille, custom fenders and extra-wide off-road spec tyres. Adding to the overall build is the winch and custom twin exhaust setup which make this Thar stand out from the crowd.
Scorpio Darkhorse
Mahindra also made several special editions of the Scorpio SUV, one of which is the Scorpio Darkhorse edition. It features a rugged look compared to the standard Scorpio while that bold front fascia will turn heads wherever this car goes. The boxy wire-mesh grille, custom three-pod headlamps, and a custom bumper that sports two fog lamps along with big intakes on top of the bonnet, all come together to create the Darkhorse. The matte grey paint job with a few orange highlights finally seals the deal.
Scorpio Extreme
The Scorpio Extreme, as its name suggests, is a more extreme version of the standard Scorpio. The major change here is the body conversion as the Scorpio Extreme gets a dual cab pickup truck look. The overall look is further enhanced by the use of grey plastic cladding on the wheel arches and bumpers. Auxiliary lamps fitted to a metal bar provide illumination in the dark and the whole setup is mounted on the front bumper. Other mods on this special customised Scorpio pickup include a sunroof, custom roof rails and bright yellow custom paint scheme.
Scorpio Mountaineer
While the Extreme might not be all that extreme, the Scorpio Mountaineer holds true to its name. It gets a single cab pickup truck design and carries a rugged look all around its body. The Mountaineer comes fitted with a new front grille and three-pod headlamps with a single cab pickup truck body painted grey with red highlights. Mahindra has further given several add ons to this custom kit including blacked out deep dish alloy wheels clad with off-roading tyres along with bumper mounted towing rings, side scoops, a CRC steel rear metal bumper and a snorkel. A pickaxe mounted on the side announces the car’s intentions wherever it goes.
Bolero Attitude
The Bolero Attitude is exactly what its nameplate says it is, a Bolero with an attitude. The Bolero Attitude features a single-cab pickup truck body with tripod projectors, custom grille and front bumper with towing rings, hood scoop, quad auxiliary lights mounted on the roof and a snorkel and a pickaxe mounted on the side. Its bright orange paint job is contrasted by the black cladding, with the interiors featuring a reverse of the exterior colour palette, black with orange highlights.
Bolero Stinger
The Mahindra Stinger badge has been placed on multiple Bolero-based custom jobs. This one is based on an older Bolero and features round headlamps and indicators (replacing the boxy rectangular units on the regular car), a chunky dual tone bumper and four foglamps near the registration plate housing. Adding to the modified look is a custom front bonnet, faux air vents on the fenders and a dual cab pickup body.
Bolero Stinger II
This Stinger is based on a newer version of the Bolero. While the front-end looks familiar, the bonnet features a host of faux air vents and sitting just above the windshield are four warning lights. The dual cab body is painted in a fetching shade of blue and the pickup features multiple pieces of plastic cladding which give it a rather distinct look. The Stinger II also sports a snazzy set of alloys which seem to be the only shiny bit on this custom pickup truck.
DC Marazzo
The special edition Marazzo modified by DC Design in collaboration with Mahindra was first showcased during the launch event of the MPV in September 2018. What it offers is a full luxury transformation of the MPV’s interiors along with a few minor changes on the exteriors, all for just around Rs. 5.25 lakh. The car gets two sofa like recliners, leather upholstery with a complete dashboard overhaul, LCD screens, and chiller along with ambient lights. Leather, wood and chrome are the primary constituents in this DC Design interiors and you can get one done at your nearest dealership.
