The fastest S-Class Mercedes Benz has ever produced has just been launched in India. Called the S63 AMG coupe, the car is a sporty, three door S-Class variant that combines frightful performance with bespoke luxury, a combination that would otherwise require you to buy very, very expensive Bentleys and Rolls Royces. In comparison to those cars, the Mercedes Benz S63 AMG is a veritable steal, at Rs. 2.55 crore rupees. What do you get for this much money? 612 German thoroughbred horses, a tree stump pulling 900 Nm of torque, and a 0-100 Kph sprint timing of 4 seconds. The S63 AMG is powered by a brand new motor – a 4.0 litre, twin turbocharged V8 petrol engine.
That motor is a full 1.5 liters smaller than the 5.5 litre V8 motor it replaces, and yet manages to put out over 35 Bhp more than what the older motor produced at its very peak. Well, this is what playing with boost pressures on a super high-tech, modern petrol engine can do. The engine drives all four wheels of the car by means of an all-wheel drive system, deriving power from a 9 speed automatic gearbox, another new item on high-performance Mercedes Benz AMG badged cars. Top speed? A supercar-like 300 Kph, electronically limited. In other words, the S63 AMG is capable of going faster if the electronic limiter is done away with. Tuners will already be making plans.
Other trick bits on the high performance car include AMG Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation system, AMG speed-sensitive steering, AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension with variable damper control, AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes: Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual and a Controllable AMG Performance exhaust system whose flaps open and close to vary the exhaust note of the car based on the driving mode selected. As for cutting edge safety features, in addition to airbags, ABS, traction control, ESP and the usual features that most high-end cars get, the S63 AMG also gets an optional safety pack that adds radar-based lane hold, adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning features.
