One of the most dangerous and frequently committed crimes in India is underage driving. Regular sightings of children driving scooters, motorcycles, and automobiles are common in the country. However, most of the time, the children spotted driving are between the ages of 12 and 18, but sometimes they can be as young as 6. Most recently, a video surfaced on YouTube featuring a 6-year-old boy driving a Hyundai Creta. In the video, the child was sitting on his father’s lap and operating the car’s steering wheel, while the father was in control of the accelerator and brake.
The video of the 6-year-old boy driving a Hyundai Creta mid-size SUV has been shared on Gunu Lifestyle’s channel in the USA. The video shows the young boy sitting on his father’s lap in the driving seat. It is notable that the car is a manual transmission car, and the father can be seen operating the gearbox and the pedals. The father is seen smiling while his son sits on his lap and handles the steering wheel. In the background of the car, it can also be noted that the road is filled with traffic, and numerous vehicles are passing by during this act of stupidity.

Viewers can also notice that the father himself in the video is wearing a seatbelt, but the child is not wearing any safety protection. It should be noted that even if the child were to wear the seatbelt, it could have been dangerous for him in this case. The main issue with this act is that the father is being irresponsible by making his kid sit on his lap on such a busy road. Although nothing goes wrong in the video, if the car had crashed, the airbag would have deployed, suffocating and potentially causing the death of the child.
These types of videos are an example of why road safety should be one of the main topics that need to be addressed in the country. This is not the first time that a video like this has been shared on the internet. Footage from July 2020 showed an advocate recording his 12-year-old daughter driving a Toyota Fortuner on a national highway, and it was also shared on the internet.
According to reports, the video was recorded during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The advocate in the video mentioned, “My daughter Zen Sadavarte is a first-time driver on the highway from Thane to Dadar in Fortuner MH 02 GJ 100.” Following this, a huge controversy sparked after the video went viral on the internet.
The footage of the advocate boasting about his minor daughter driving the Toyota Fortuner SUV was shared via Twitter by Majalgaon resident Ganesh Chirke. He pleaded with the police to act and file an FIR against Sadavarte for disobeying traffic laws. The 12-year-old was described as a menace to other drivers on the highway by a number of other Twitter users, who encouraged Thane Police and the DGP of Maharashtra to take appropriate legal action. Recently, in February of this year, the parents of a minor in Puducherry were sentenced to jail for 3 years. Additionally, the parents were fined Rs 25,000 as well.
