Fiat India may launch the Fiat 500X compact SUV to India by 2013. When launch in India the 500X will have compact SUVs like the Renault Duster, Ford Ecosport, Skoda Yeti and may be even the Toyota Rush for company.
It seems like Fiat too is taking cue from other manufacturers and trying to follow suit by launching a compact SUV.
The 500X could be an important car for Fiat in India as they would have opened independent dealerships and service centers by then. The pricing of the 500 X will be a key factor in determining its success or failure, especially with so many other options available.
“Lots of brands with SUV or SUV like products are coming to India. The segment is growing. The next probable brand from Fiat-Chrysler for the Indian market is Jeep. We are also considering 500X. This is also an opportunity for the Indian market. We are considering carefully the possibilities of all the brands,” Enrico Atanasio, Head – Commercial for Fiat India was quoted as saying by Motorbeam.
Fiat is in the process of laying down the foundations for a fully owned company that will be responsible for its sales, service and spares in India. Also read: Sedan sales in June 2012: Hits and misses
Fiat has plans to establish 80 exclusive showrooms by 2013. We can then expect cars like the Jeep Cherokee and Chrysler models from Fiat. At present Fiat sells the Linea sedan and the Punto hatchback in India, adding the 500X to their portfolio could turn out to be a very wise move if Fiat gets the pricing right.
