Fiat India has released yet another teaser of the Avventura crossover styled hatchback, ahead of its launch later this year. Based on the Fiat Grande Punto hatchback’s platform, the Avventura will feature a higher ground clearance of 210 mm and butch looks. The car will also gain body cladding, bumper inserts at the front and the rear and spare wheel mounted on a sub-assembly that sits on the hatch lid.
The Avventura’s competitors in India include the Volkswagen Cross Polo and the Toyota Etios Cross hatchbacks. The Avventura is a car that will see its maiden launch in India, and is likely to be exported from Ranjangaon, to other parts of the developing world. The hatchback will share its engine line up with the Fiat Grande Punto.
Considering that the Avventura will sit above the Grande Punto in terms of price and positioning, only the 1.4 liter FIRE petrol (89 Bhp-115 Nm) and the 1.3 liter Multijet diesel (91 Bhp-209 Nm) engines are expected to be offered with this hatchback. While the Auto Expo display version of the Avventura featured a 6 speed gear shifter, it remains to be seen if Fiat gives the car an additional cog.
As Fiat uses a 5 speed gearbox on both the Punto EVO Facelift and the Linea sedan, the chances of the Avventura gaining a 6 speed manual gearbox are slim. The car’s interiors will be shared with the Punto EVO and this includes the new dashboard design and the better quality of materials used.
The crossover styled hatchback segment has remained a non-starter in the Indian car market, with both the Polo Cross and the Etios Cross being market duds. On whether the Avventura does anything to upset this status quo and put the bang back in this segment of cars will be closely watched. The Avventura is expected to follow the Punto EVO into India, with a launch expected during the festive season.
