For the European car markets, Italian car maker Fiat facelifted the Grande Punto in 2012. The facelifted Punto got revised front and rear ends. Even as the Euro-spec Punto is due for yet another facelift, Fiat India is yet to launch the facelifted 2012 Punto in India. While the car maker announced that the Punto Facelift will be launched here later this year, test mules of the car show an interesting styling element, of that of the Avventura’s headlamps. By the looks of it, Fiat India could use the Avventura’s new headlamps and front end styling for the Punto facelift as well.
The Avventura comes with sharply raked headlamps, quite unlike the 2012 Punto’s rounded headlamps that are a carry over from the outgoing model. If Fiat India indeed opts to use the sharply raked headlamp design seen on the Avventura, on the Punto Facelift, the India-spec Punto will gets its own unique styling. Also, this design element could make it to the global facelift of the Punto as well. Apart from the new headlamps, the facelifted Punto will get other styling revisions at the front and the rear. On the inside, a revised dashboard and better quality materials will be the major changes.
In terms of safety features and creature comforts, expect the current crop of features to be carried over with minimal additions. The same is expected to be the case with the engines and transmissions as well. 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter FIRE petrol engines and the 1.3 liter Multijet turbo diesel engine, in two states of tune (75 Bhp and 90 Bhp), are likely to be carried over to the facelifted Punto. The B+ segment hatchback could get an automated manual transmission (AMT) option in the next few months as Fiat is said to be considering the AMT option for both the Punto and the Linea.
