Italian automaker Fiat has just refreshed its best selling car in India, the Grande Punto. Dubbed the Punto EVO, the car is a facelifted version of the Grande Punto and comes with a host of improvements, new features and a refreshed design. The car’s “introductory” prices start from 4.55 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi, with both petrol and turbo diesel engined versions of the car on sale. Bookings of the car are now open for a sum of 25,000 rupees and test drives will begin soon.
The petrol engined Punto EVO’s prices range from 4.55 lakh rupees to 6.65 lakh rupees while those of the diesel engine Punto range from 5.27 lakh rupees to 7.19 lakh rupees. It must be noted that the introductory prices of the Punto EVO are lower than the pre-facelift version, whose prices range from 4.93 lakh rupees to 7.24 lakh rupees. Clearly, Fiat India has got the Punto EVO’s pricing bang on target, making the car a very attractive buy for those looking for a solidly built hatchback with classy looks.

- 1.2 Dynamic – 5.12 lakh rupees
- 1.4 Emotion – 6.66 lakh rupees
- 1.3 Active – 5.27 lakh rupees

The Punto EVO features a design revamp at the front and the end. Gone are the smooth, timeless lines epitomized by Giorgetto Guigiaro, making way for a more edgy design with sharper headlamps, a new front grille and bumper, and a new bonnet. The rear of the car sees new LED tail lamps and a revised bumper. The alloy wheels adopt a new design with the top-end Sport model riding on 16 inch alloy wheels. A 195 mm ground clearance means that the Punto EVO can shame a few SUVs.
Fiat has persisted with a three engine line up on the Punto Evo, with two naturally aspirated, FIRE petrol engines with 1.2 and 1.4 liter capacities, and a 1.3 liter Multijet turbo diesel engine. While the 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter petrol engines output 67 Bhp-96 Nm and 89 Bhp-115 Nm respectively, the diesel motor is available in two states of tune, a fixed geometry turbocharger equipped version that outputs 76 Bhp-197 Nm and a variable geometry turbocharger equipped version with outputs of 91 Bhp-209 Nm. Both the petrol and turbo diesel engines use 5 speed manual transmissions.
The Punto EVO’s interiors see a big revision, with a new dashboard that comes in a two tone, beige and black finish for the lower variants, while the top end variants get an all-black dashboard finish. Fiat India has also added new features to the Punto EVO. Rear AC vents with an integrated bottle holder is one such prominent new addition. The car is sold in 7 colours, with Magnesio Gold and Glitterati Grey being the new paint shade additions.
The car is available in 7 variants, 3 in petrol and 4 in diesel trims (Active, Dynamic, Emotion and Sport). The Active and Dynamic petrol variants use a 1.2 liter motor while the Emotion variant uses the 1.4 liter motor. The 1.3 liter Multijet diesel engine in the lower state of tune is offered on the Active, Dynamic and Emotion models while the engine’s higher state of tune powers the Sport variant.
