The Fiat Avventura crossover styled hatchback is one of its kind, built for the Italian car maker’s to foray into the fast growing crossover market of India. The crossover is likely to be launched in the next few months and is based on the Fiat Grande Punto platform. Apart from stylistic changes, enhancements to the ground clearance, a new dashboard and revised interiors, the Avventura is more or less a butch and raised version of the Grande Punto.
Although the Avventura is meant mainly for the Indian car market, there are many emerging car markets across the world that are similar to the one here. Brazil, Russia, South Africa and China are a few such emerging markets where cars similar to the ones sold in India are offered by automakers. In keeping with this trend, Fiat India is considering an export strategy for the Avventura although the exact markets which will get the made-in-India crossover is yet to be decided.
Crossover styled hatchbacks such as the Toyota Etios Cross and the Volkswagen Cross Polo are already sold in international markets. The Fiat Avventura is likely to take a similar route in future. Fiat’s Ranjangaon factory, off Pune, will be the export hub for the Avventura as the Italian car maker is said to have plenty of spare capacity what with the Grande Punto hatchback and Linea sedan selling in limited numbers.
By using the Ranjangaon factory to export the Avventura to emerging car markets across the globe, the Italian car maker will aim at better cash realizations, leveraging India’s twin advantages of being a low cost sourcing and manufacturing hub. The Avventura sold in India will be available with petrol and turbo diesel engines carried over from the Grande Punto’s top end variants. Click here for additional details of the Fiat Avventura.
