First crash of Maruti Jimny: Sturdy SUV protects passengers

Road accidents are one of the worst fears of many people, and for all the right reasons, they should be. Thankfully, though, with the government making tough efforts and compelling automakers to provide more safety features even in the base variants of cars, the number of fatalities is decreasing. Most recently, another unfortunate accident took place, and this one happened to a brand-new Maruti Suzuki Jimny. This is the first-ever major accident that has been reported about the newly launched lifestyle off-roader, Jimny, but fortunately, no one was severely hurt in this accident.

The pictures and the story behind the accident have been shared on the Jimny Club India’s official Facebook page by the owner of the car, Swapnil Thakur. The owner, in his post, has shared a few pictures of the Jimny after the accident. According to the post of the Jimny’s owner, he was traveling with his family. He then stated that after they reached Kaushambi Metro, a Government transport bus that was coming at full speed from the wrong direction without any horn or warning just rammed into the left passenger side of his Jimny.

He then stated that fortunately, he and his entire family came out of the accident without any injuries. The owner mentioned that they were saved because of the airbags and seat belts. However, their car got badly damaged in the accident, and he believes that it might be a total loss. He further added that the A-pillar and the B-pillar have been completely broken by the impact of the accident. Lastly, he mentioned that he has also filed an FIR against the bus driver. The owner, in his post, concluded with a question: what will be the process of insurance in this case, and will this damage get repaired or will his car be declared a total loss? The owner of this particular Jimny also prefaced the post by mentioning that he bought this car just a few weeks ago on June 12, 2023.

From the pictures, we can note that the bus might have directly hit the left front passenger side of the car, as the impact on that door is the worst. At the same time, it can also be noted that there is a substantial amount of damage on the front left fender and the rear left passenger door. Upon further inspection, it can be observed that the front windshield of the car has also been damaged, and the roof of the car has also taken a massive hit. Most likely, this car will be deemed a total loss, but as of yet, nothing can be said concretely.

Accidents like these are a reminder that safety should always be the most important thing, as the passengers and the driver of this car were saved because of seatbelts and airbags. Another important aspect of this accident is that it was caused by a speeding bus driver not obeying traffic rules. This is one of the biggest problems in India, and drivers should be mindful of obeying traffic laws.
