One of Maruti’s all time best sellers, the WagonR, will soon get an all-new version. And the new version’s just been launched in Japan. Here is all you need to know about the all-new WagonR.
Retains tall boy design..
…But becomes a lot funkier. The exterior design has been updated significantly with the all-new front design. There is a grille separating the headlamp up front. The fog lamps have been integrated into the headlight unit itself. From the side, the new WagonR gets a unique texture with half partially blacked out B-Pillar.
The front bumper crease runs through the body and also forms the wheel arch of the vehicle. The vehicle’s length decreases by 30 mm and height by few mm but the wheelbase grows by 60mm, creating more space inside the vehicle. The front bumper crease runs through the body and also forms the wheel arch of the car.
The rear of the vehicle looks cleaner than the current model. New WagonR gets a low mounted tail-lamp unit with integrated brake lamp, fog lamp and indicators. The boot lid opener is placed in the middle of the door. The vehicle also gets a roof-mounted spoiler with high mounted brake lamp unit.
There is also another model, which looks much sober with single headlamp unit but according to Suzuki website, the sober looking one incorporated full-fledged hybrid system, which will not make to the Indian soil anytime soon.
That looks cool. What has changed on the inside?
The interiors are all new too. The new model gets new dashboard. The instrument cluster has moved to the central position on the dashboard. There is also a digital information display for the driver. Below the cluster, a tablet like infotainment system is placed, similar to Ignis, which will supposedly get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The gear-lever has also been placed on the dashboard and beside the lever is the AC control unit. The new WagonR gets dual-tone black and light beige clours making the car look much more premium.
Well, the Japanese version of WagonR come with mild-hybrid and full-hybrid technology. In India, no such thing will happen. The new WagonR in Japan returns up to 33.8 km/l, but the Indian figures will turn out to much lesser than that. In India, the new WagonR will be powered by the same 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces a maximum of 67 BHP. The engine may be re-tuned, but no new engine is expected with the car.
Wait, there is Stingray too!
The sporty version of the WagonR has also received quite some updates. The front headlamps are curved and thing while the central front gets thick slat of a grille. The C-Pillar of the vehicle has been blacked out completely. On the inside, the Stingray gets big updates like Heads up Utility Display (HUD).
What will India not get?
India being a budget conscious country, the WagonR coming to the country will be stripped off many features. To start with, the Indian version of the vehicle will not get the 4WD system. There will be no hybrid technology too. The CVT gearbox will be replaced with AMT.
The Japanese version also gets 180-degree cameras, which is an expensive buy in India. Also, the high-end HUD will be absent from the Indian version. Safety-wise, the Indian model, will not get automatic brake assist and curtain airbags.
When will it arrive?
Maruti has already announced that the all-new WagonR will arrive in India next year. The Indian arm of Suzuki should start working on the update soon enough. The all-new WagonR will reportedly reach the Indian showrooms by mid-2018. Till then, we shall be on a look out for spy pictures.
