Sports cars are always exciting to look at and even more exciting to drive. The Indian market for sports cars is gaining pace with all carmakers looking at launching their global best-selling sports cars in India.
In 2013, there have so far been five significant sports car launches in India, with Lamborghini being the most aggressive with its launches. Here’s a look at five of the hottest sports cars that were launched in India in 2013, so far.
Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4
The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 was launched in India at Rs. 4.77 crore back in January. The car has been an instant hit with customers, with Lamborghini saying that it had good response from its Indian customers although it hasn’t divulged how many were sold in India. The car’s USP is that it can do 0-100 in just 3 seconds flat. The power comes from a 6.4 litre V12 (12 cylinder engine that churns out 700 bhp of power with a 7-speed semi-automatic transmission. Audi R8 V10 Plus
In April this year, Audi introduced its flagship sports car in India, the Audi R8 V10 Plus priced at Rs. 2.09 crore ex-showroom Delhi. It really is a car that packs in more bang for the buck compared to some of the competition. It is powered by a V10 (10-cylinder) 5.2 litre engine that puts out 550 bhp of power and 540 Nm of torque with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission mated to a permanent four-wheel drive system. Jaguar F-Type
The Jaguar F-Type is the car to drive around in if you aren’t feeling that rich, but still want a fast car to get to work as well as to take to the countryside on the weekend with the top down. The F-Type is priced between Rs. 1.37 crore and Rs. 1.61 crore – the latter for the V8S variant. The regular F-Type comes with a 3-litre V6 petrol engine that puts out 377 bhp of power, while the V8S has a 5-litre V8 that churns out 491 bhp of power with a top speed of 300 kmph. Lamborghini Gallardo India Limited Edition
Just to show you how important the Indian market is, Lamborghini launched an India-special edition of its popular sports car the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2, which is the more fun Lamborghini to drive, being a two-wheel drive. Priced at Rs. 3.06 crore and launched in June 2013, the LP 550-2 India Special comes in orange, white and green colours with a custom-painted Indian tricolour band over the car. Porsche Cayman S
The Porsche Cayman S is actually the most affordable of the line-up of sports cars launched in India this year. The Porsche Cayman S was launched in June 2013 at a price of Rs. 92.28 lakh. The 2013 Porsche Cayman S comes with a 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine that puts out 325 bhp of power. It can do 0-100 kmph in 4.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 281 kmph.
